introduction

hi all,
just wanted to introduce myself!, i have been lurking for a couple of weeks and have finally got the courage to join you all. I am trying to sort out our finances by using the tips I've read on here but not doing a very good job at the moment!. OH works for a very well known company who coulden't give anyone a pay rise this year as they hadn't made enough billions (bless!), so wages are the same but bills have all gone up...alot!. So in short we are spending more than we have coming in!. We have a loan with northen rock for 5k which is managable i suppose. Our incomings are 2K and outgoings are 1100k per month. Ok I know we should have enough to live on and thats where I would like some advice! . I have set us a budget of £150 per week to include food, petrol etc but so far in my 1st week I have had a dentists bill £30 and need new glasses £119 (they were the cheapest i could find and I look like my gran but oh well). I have bought all our food from the market and am about to try aldi's today, I had saved £30 in change (all gone needed nappies and dinner money for kids), swapped ntl packages to save £17 per m onth (ok new package isn't working properly and have probably spent £17 in phonecalls complaining). Have any of you experts got any other tips on how I can save even more money! and keep it! apart from all of us having our teeth pulled and me walking round in a blurry haze i'm stuck:confused: . I nour house it seems you try and save and something comes up!
thanks in advance for your wisdom! (if i'm on the wrong board feel free to move me!)

Where did you get them so I can avoind going there? I've paid less than that for designer glasses.

This year I got mine from specsavers for £40 & apart from not having a logo on look exactly the same as the D&G pair they replaced.

    Welcome to MSE!!

Its sounds like you are working really hard towards managing your money better, well done.

Do a SOA as mentioned and a spending diary that way you can see where your money is going.

Before you go phoning places you'd be best to check online. There is usually a discount and if you go through https://www.quidco.co.uk or any other cashback site you will get money back. I'm getting £60 back for a £96.60 insurance with directline.

Also, glasses. I got mine for £17.50 from https://www.glassesdirect.com after getting a free eyetest in town :)

And welcome! I'm sure you'll pick up lots of hints here :)

on the glasses front - my dad just ordered some online for about £40 which when he enquired at specsavers they would have been nearly £200!!!! He had his prescription written down and just ordered them - simple as a, b, c

Oh by the way welcome to MSE ;)
    😁
  • got my glasses from vision express (thought i was saving money cos I had a free eye test voucher) the expert (aka saleswoman) woulden't give me my prescription until I had bought the glasses! and honestly they were the cheapest (and they look it) in the store,
the home ins savings I did through this site, just rang to confirm the price.
have tried quidco, page wont display at the mo.
be back later with my SOA, my fine art artist has just woken
thanks for the warm welcome everyone, I'm going to enjoy it here!
