Harassment by debt companies
Anyone know how to get debt companies to stop telephoning us up several times a day / every few days.
We have two.
Capquest - from a debt with Capital One who refuse to accept a letter from Capital One saying that we do not owe them any money. They keep ringing us asking for money, we keep telling them the same, but they will not put anything in writting or go away.
Credit Solutions (CSL) - asking for money from a loan that they said we took out with Social Serivces in 1998 (at a time when we were working, earning good money and unlikely to have needed a loan). We have written to them asking for further details but rather than answer the question they keep ringing, trying to get us to pay them some money.
One final thought - How to make a lot of money. Set up a debt collection company, ring people up at random and demand payment for made up debts. - I wonder how many people pay debt collection companies that have not provided proof that the debt is actually owed?

I suppose the easy option would be change your tele number and go ex directory(if landline)then write telling them you will only deal with them by letter0

Thanks John, Yes I was wondering whether that was the only solution.
What really p...ses me off is that neither company actually want to sort out the problem, probably because they can keep adding interest/charges to the accounts. Both debts are small and I could pay them off easily, but it is the principle. They just keep pushing, most people would crack and pay them off, but if I do that then they will continue to push other weaker people to pay them even if those people do not owe the money.
I really want Capquest to take me to court, as to do this they will have to prove to me (and a judge) that we owe them any money, it's been nearly a couple of years now, and Capital One say that they no longer have details of my account.0 -
So do you owe the money or not?
Its a yes or no question.0 -

A truecall may help. Or a Panasonic high end cordless phone, the ones with the colour screens, can barr incoming calls from specific numbers (sadly not withheld etc).0

Definitely send the letter quoted above.
Until both companies provide evidence the answer is NO. The CSL debt is likely to be statute barred.
Debt collection companies making mistakes? Linking wrong people on search databases to wrong accounts? Never! [rolleyes]The man without a signature.0 -
There are some template letters over on the DFW forum for sending to creditors to tell them they need to prove the debt is yours or to go away. It mentions contacting the OFT if they continue to contact you.
Have a look on that board and post if you can't find the right letter - it is known as the prove it letter so you could search for that even.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0 -
