Is anyone allergic to wool?

If so, how do you get on with cashmere?
I desperately want a smart, warm winter coat but all the ones I like seem to have wool in - I got one with only 17% wool thinking it might be OK, but it made me itch and I'm going to have to return it. It was really nice as well

I think that's what I will end up doing. I do have a nice warm coat, but it's very casual and I'm looking for something smarter for work. Smart + warm = wool in most shops, I'm finding.0

Since wool comes from sheep and cashmere comes from goats, if you have a wool allergy, this doesn't necessarily mean you will be allergic to cashmere as well. Some people with wool allergies are allergic to the lanolin in it, while others are allergic to the fibres themselves - cashmere is sometimes lanolised to make it water resistant, so if it's the lanolin you're allergic to, a coat with it in may not work out.
I'm afraid the only way to find out for sure would be to expose your skin to it and see.0 -
