Credit check report issues

Hi
I've just registered with Equifax for credit check report - I provided all the personal data, addresses etc However they want me to send scan of my passport and latest bank statement before they can release my credit report. Is that the common practice? When I called to finalise my registration they said the system does not generate enough verification questions for me therefore I need to send the documents.
Is it not better to register with Experian? Do they have similar requirements?
Thanks for info!

Best to avoid these agencies as they are a waste of money and of no real benefit to the borrower unless you need evidence for legal purposes.0

They have no right to ask for bank statements or passport , all they need is proof of id , I sent for my statuatory report from all three agencies , i printed my request and printed my name , i enclosed two utility bills in my name equifax and experian sent my report by return , the other demanded , bank statement , driving licence, mortgage statement ,passport , i sent back one more utillity bill and a threat , if they did not comply i would take legal action and report them to the relevant bodies , they sent my report by return , be aware that these companies are expanding their interests some work for government agencies , treat them with extreme caution .Hi
