Hi
Didn't know where to post this so I put it here !. Just watched intro to Watchdog and they are doing a feature on Spectrum debt consolidation services. It may be of interest if any of you had dealt with them

Yes, saw it. God, what a horrific company.0

I am wondering if someone could PM me the details.
I work for a credit card company (in collections, but I am lovely, my customers tell me all the time!) & I get peeps who say they are dealing with CCCS/PayPlan & Spectrum does also come up alot.
I do try & send peeps towards CCCS cos I know they are 'free'.
I just like to have the full info cos I don't like to see any of my customers already struggling to be further ripped off.
thank you

i nearly got sucked in by spectrum when i was at the lowest point and would turn to anyone or anything who said they could help.
i got the details from teletext and spoke to them. they then arrange for a pro. trained debt advisor (salesman) to come to your house.
he showed me loads of letters from banks accepting offers of £1 and said the jist of this. "we complete your financial statement showing you have no money so therefore can only offer a pound we charge you 17 quid a month for this service which is taken from the payment you make to us" i said "why will creditors accept this" replied " because we tell them that things will change. then within 5 years you tell us how much you can raise on your house and we will go to your creditors and say you cannot afford total amount but will pay x. whatever we save we get 20% which is taken from your payment"
a long story i know. but all they do is what payplan are doing for me. they say they are a debt solution not management.....ummm
needless to say i spoke to payplan and i am happily with them

i too nearly got sucked in with spectrum.
the lightbulb moment came when the said i would have to pay over £1k up front in three easy payments of over £300.
when i asked what i was getting the woman replied that i would be sweeping everything under their carpet.
i realised that i didnt want to simply sweep things under the carpet for five years but to actually reduce my debt.
I also discovered this site and thankfully people advised me not to use them.
It however took around three weeks of daily hassell from them for them to get the picture that i was not interested in their services.
complete bunch of scheisters, i sat with my heart in my mouth watching watchdog and thanked my lucky stars i never used them.0 -
I posted a thread about this yesterday just before leaving work.
Here's a link to the BBC's website covering the Spectrum report.

I am gutted to say that I too have been taken in by these people at a time in my life when I have been at my lowest and I wanted help. Needless to say, I will be writing to them today and informing them that I no longer require their services.

Thought the program was a big anticlimax. In all cases it didn't go in to much detail and if you didn't have preconceived ideas could think that they had found isolated cases and that the companies were really ok.
The British Gas thing was a total waste of time. Just seemed to be an excuse to show old clips.
Think this is typical of both watchdog and Which magazine - both of which seem to go for image rather than content now (like most tv).0 -

did you cancel your dealings with spectrum and if so how did it go?
Im thinking of doing the same but am scared of the unknown, like what happens to the debt? and what already been paid?
After 4yrs of paying I dont want to sign up to another 5yrs (although ours has now been found out not to be an IVA as we were led to believe)0
