Car Price Valuation - why is a Mondeo same as a fiesta?
I am currently on the hunt for a new car.
I was looking at second hand fords and found a
2003 fiesta 1.4 zetec
and a 2003 Mondeo 2.0 Ghia
The ghia has 10k miles less and full service history but is the same price.
Checking glasses for valuation and I found that both are coming in at the same valuation.
Does anyone know why?
My instinct was the bigger car would be more expensive but I suppose the mondeos don't hold their value
I checked parkers and found that indeed the mondeo is less than the fiesta in their valuation for the same miles.
Trying to find a focus but the one I've found looks a good deal so I'm a bit wary about it. Going to try to view it tomorrow and check out further. its a 2003 1.8 zetec with 74k miles

The bigger car is more expensive to run in every possible way - being a large petrol.0

Also demand more people will want the fiesta than the Mondeo0
-
The Fiesta will hold its value because it's a smallish city car sort of thing and will appeal to loads more people. Mondeo is seen as being big (and expensive to run, which it won't be).Happy chappy0

Yup -- there is not much of a market for large second hand gas guzzlers. Diesels yes, petrol no.Je suis sabot...0

Well... 30MPG, assumedly £235 tax, high insurance group, etc0 -
Don't worry about the mileage on the focus, they run forever. Mine's got 158,000 on it and never had much bother.
My goal is 200,000 miles before I change it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Thanks, thats good to know.
I'm only wary because its not a main dealer the car is with hence why its probably a good deal. Its one of those places where you need to call to arrange a viewing so could well be legit but you always wonder...0 -

thats handy info given that they are comparing a fiesta and a mondeo "If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
I had a Focus Estate Tddi, sounded like a tractor but had over 220k on it at 6 years old, still drove well, or it did after I put on front wishbones and two driveshafts.
The seats weren't even worn, gearbox was sweet, amazed to be honest, though the seats could cripple you on a long journey. (mine was an LX so other models may have better seats.)0 -

Read the entire first post the OP also talked about looking at a Focus.
To get back to the first query, one very good reason for Mondeos losing value quickly, and yes even the diesels lose money badly, is the fleet market and the discounts they get affecting residuals.
Also small economical city cars with cheap insurance and good fuel economy really seem to be outperforming the rest of the market. My wifes Clio was valued at £600 less than we paid for it a year ago on a trade in a few weeks ago, though we did get it for a decent price in the first place.
A good mk3 Mondeo makes a great value used buy these days.0
