hassell from creditors

Hi

I have just started my dmp (posted forms last week) and yesterday received my first letter from bank asking me to put cash into my acc imediatly as i am over my o/d limit.

I have today sent this to cccs as i think it has crossed with cccs letter to them to confirm i am going down the route of dmp.

what i would like to know is realistically how much hassell I am likely to get from my creditors over the next few months.

they are

Virgin c/c £43908
Nationwide c/c £3325
M&S Loan £6000 (roughly)
Nationwide o/d 1318 (limit 1200)

I am over my o/d limit due to charges from nationwide.

If i ignore the phone calls what will happen? will they just write to me or send "the heavies in"

I am going to put a call baring on my home phone from unknown numbers.

Any info on what will happen next would be great.

thanks

Wish I could tell you otherwise, but things are likely to be quite bad for the next couple of months. I've been on a DMP for about 2 and a half years - also with CCCS.

When you first contact the people you owe money to to say that you've approached CCCS and are looking at a DMP you get varied reactions. One of the companies that I owed money to was supportive - they actually recommended CCCS after I had contacted them to say that I was having money problems and was considering CAB, they suggested CCCS as being a better option. The others were awful.

Letters kept coming, but even worse was the constant telephone calls. Night and day, constantly. Always the same, wanting money there and then, never believing that you don't have any and accusing you of just trying to get out of paying what you owe. Like I really have the money to pay you and I'm just taking this crap from you for the hell of it!!!

At the time I didn't know anything about this site and didn't know about the rights that I have.

If I were to go through it again though, I would know that I didn't need to take it from them. I'd be very strong in responding to them and say that I was dealing with CCCS, quote the reference number and refer them to CCCS. I'd also write to them and say that I did not want to be contacted again by telephone and that any future contact should be in writing (you have this right and they have to abide by your wishes).

I also had one company who insisted in sending postcards through the mail asking me to contact them asap to discuss a personal matter. Alright, it didn't say what the matter was, but it was very indiscrete and all it would have taken was another member of my family to ring the number on the card to discover it was a debt collection company (which actually happened).

At the end of the day though, things do settle down. I'm actually paying off my debts now and the amount that I owe is reducing every month for the first time in my adult life.

Stick in there - it is worth it. Do your family know about the problems you are having? If not, it would be best if you share the problem with them. They will probably suspect soon anyway with the calls/letters. It is best that you tell them now rather than them finding out another way. Their support will be good anyway.
  • thanks for the message madduck

i finally plucked up the courage the other week to tello/h and it was a great relief to finally get it out in the open.

i will send them directly to cccs and get that letter in post tomorrow
  • shameless self bumb and a question

I am also starting my claim for bank charges. I currently owe Nationwide £1300 as o/d. If my charges that i claimed back were £1300 would this just come off my Nationwide debt and clear it or would the cash be split equally between my creditors.

sorry if this is a stupid question
