Where's the best place to buy true size clothing for children?

My 4yr old is very well built for his age, not fat but just stocky and also very tall for his age ( he's taller than his 5.5yr old cousins and towers above kids on nursery)
So I have bought trousers for 5-6 year for his bum and waist but thd trousers are miles too long, and some stores have no bum space whatsoever and others are really baggy at the front.
If I buy the correct size for him they do button up but are very tight so hd ends up wearing tracksuit bottoms/ joggers all the time.
I'd like him to wear nice trousers or jeans to look a little smarter bug struggling to find true size shops
Any advice?

My son is just the same, I find zara fit him very well, however they don't fit my little girl true to age.0

my son was like this aswell. I used the vertbaudet catologue years ago because you could buy boys trousers in either slim or generous fit. Also they had adjustable waistbands. At the age of 5 he was somewhat 'stocky'..people used to comment on his size a lot.
try m & s aswell.
ps. All through his primary school years I would have to buy trousers 2 sizes bigger to accomdate his waist, then end up hemming up the bottoms as they were too long for his legs! By the time he got to high school he was shooting up so fast he resembled a bean pole, so try not to worry!0 -
not sure what you mean by 'true' size clothing, but Next have cottoned onto the fact alot of kids have larger waists than normal for their age, so now do a childrens plus fit range, which gives the right leg length, but allows about 5cm more around the waist than standard fit trousers
its not available on all trousers, but there is usually at least 1 or two pairs of jeans, and the odd pair of smart trousers available too
otherwise the easiest option is to buy 3/4 length or boarder length trousers that fit on the waist, and just wear them as full length ones, due to the shorter leg (although they tapering can be a bit off)
or do as i do, and tell my kids turn-ups are the 'in thing'

BHS is one of the only shops any of my kids can walk in and buy anything off the peg which fits. Next occasional items but other than that is a hunt

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this will be a problem until he goes into adult stuff. My son is now 12 and unlike most boys he has a bum (takes after his mum unfortunately for him) and chunky thighs. He has no belly though, so trousers are fine length and waist wise but too tight round his bum and thighs. All he wears is joggers and he laways looks scruffy. Did manage to get jeans in Zara once but these are too small now. Just tried next and M&S but the age 13 are too tight and the age 14 are massive so stuck. I have ordered a load in the sales so hoping some will fit and if they are too long I will have them taken up properly. I think boys stuff is worse for this my son was on the 98th centile when he was born and he is not overweight he is just chunky and not a bean pole or lanky like most boys his age.0
