Bankruptcy - milestones and timescales

Thanks for the replies... Not sure whether the protocol is to open a new thread but wanted to bring this to the top again

I have found that getting to talk to the bank (about either the business or personal debt) is way harder than anyone would believe...

I will be talking to them (or trying to)next week, but I am concerned that I will be going to Argentina for 3 months in Feb, and will really like to get to some kind of closure before then.

Could anyone shed any light on the actual process and timelines from making a decision to declare BR to being officially BR?

Also an earlier poster; Kittycat, mentioned the 'nightmare' of the OR process - could anyone shed more light on this too please.

thanks and have a good day!

Depending on where you live and the court you go to wil determine when you can go BR. Some offer a walk in service but most operate an appointments system. click here to find the court for you.

I don't know all your circumstances but have you spoken to Business Debtline or National Debtline or any of the other free advice services? If bankruptcy is the option for you then it can be quick. You need to fill in the forms - and with a business it may take you longer than others to fill in. Do you own property etc.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
There is no definitive answer to the length of the process. It will depend on what system your local court uses, ie either an appointment system or a drop in system. If it is an appointment system then it will depend on how long their waiting list is. If it is a drop in system then you turn up on the day with your forms and fees, and will be done on a first come first served basis.

The OR is a person who is just doing their job, while I cannot speak for everyone, the experience I have of the OR was reasonably pleasant and they were totally professional. In fact the OR interview was the part that I was dreading the most, but it was not bad at all. They will want to know how come you have ended up where you are, but as long as you are totally honest with them you will be fine.

    Hope this helps:)
