I'm a guest at a wedding in 2011

I'm a newcomer to this part of the forum, hello :j Thing is, I'm going to a fairly posh London wedding next year, and I need to look good(ish). I'm trawling through John Lewis and FatFace sales at the mo - my question is, is it okay to wear a mini/tunic dress over trousers or leggings at a wedding? I find that I've lost my fashion eye, so to speak
Any help appreciated.

Personally I would say over trousers should be ok, but leggings are too casual for a "posh" wedding as you put it.
A friend of mine wore leggings to a wedding with a tunic last summer and she said that she felt under-dressed and uncomfortable.
I think you can make trousers and a tunic look really smart with the right accessories. Maybe a nice fascinator/hairband/flower from somewhere? THIS one at New Look is £5 now.
I think accessories can make an outfit, so personally would go for shoes and matching clutch bag, a fascinator and statement bracelet/bangle to dress up tunic and trousers.
Can you tell I LOVE shopping and dressing up? Haha!!!First date 10.2.2002

Thanks emz - certainly, that sort of look is more my regular style. I'm not sure yet that I need or even want a dress .... this is going to be interesting. And of course you're right about the accesssories. Ta muchly!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I'm sorry, but I don't think tunic and trousers are fine for a posh wedding. And leggins are a definite no-no! There are sales everywhere now, maybe you'd manage to find some elegant dress, something that will not go out of fashion so that you could wear it for years? From Poland...with love.

Tunic and trousers will be fine - its not you everyone will be looking at, its the bride.!! Don't buy something that you'll never wear again.0

I agree with PBS and think you should go for an elegant dress and heels.
If you give us your age perhaps we could hep you find something on the net.

Thanks all! And all links gratefully received
Yes, it has to be a dress really, doesn't it. The Debenhams one, those aren't really my colours, and its a tiny bit too short, tbh, but that dress in another colourway and slightly longer would be brilliant.
I was looking at a coast dress on ebay and a couple of floral River Island dresses. There's a couple of Monsoon things that are so cheap I might buy them anyway - my wardrobe has very little in it thats acceptable, and I need to up my game a bit.
Thanks for the comments.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
i got a beautiful dress (lace strapless prom dress) for a wedding i'm going to on new year's eve from the sophie gray collection at bhs - it cost £24 a couple of weeks ago (reduced from £48) and i see is now reduced to £14!! there are several very nice dresses in the collection http://www.bhs.co.uk/mall/departmentpage.cfm/bhsstore/217376/1/1 and the prices are pretty bargainous. despite the cheap price i found it to be very well made (the bodice is boned/wired in the prom dress) and look a lot more expensive than they cost!!0

Bravissimo has some wonderful, classic dresses, and they have a sale now.

If you want a frock at a fraction of the retail price, and do not mind that it has been warn before....
Goto say Debenhams or Monsoon, work out what suits and your size in different ranges, and then onto ebay to pick out a dress and then start bidding...... you will get a bargain........ you are planning early so have several months to win a spot on dress.
Afterwards, you can resell the dress and probably get back what you have spent on it.0
