empty milk bottle on coffee table and bowl of sugar lumps. Player is blind folded, kneels in front of table and with spoon attempts to put as many sugar lumps from bowl into milk bottle in 60 seconds. Great fun and even allows for a biut of cheating with people switching the bottle or turning it upside down.0

Some games we play at New Year's Eve parties are:
1. Get a collection of big, woolly socks - walking socks great. Select items that fit in them (bit of lego, cotton reel, battery, - the odder the better), tie up the sock top and suspend from door handles.
Everyone (singly or pairs) goes around and has to guess what is in the sock just by feeling, then write down etc.
2. Another good one is the 'Reducing Paper' game. It involves dancing as well. Pair everyone up - one little, one large is good - and give each pair a double spread of newspaper.
Round One - Start music, everyone dancing around, when music stops the pair must both jump on the paper - so far so easy.
Now, tear each pair's sheet of paper in half. Start music, dancing, stop music, both on sheet.
Continue reducing the size of the sheet by half each time. As you can imagine, as the area gets smaller and smaller the pairs have to resort to interesting methods of getting them both on the paper! Standing on each others feet is valid, as is one giving the other a piggy back!
The winning couple are the last ones to remain on their sheet without falling off.
And I have to share this one that we played last year - found by one of our friends and an absolute scream - have the camera ready as it is a wonderful spectacle!!
3. You need: two wine bottles (empty, natch), two big rolls sellotape, two bits of string, and two belts.
Tie the rolls of sellotape to the belt with the string. They should dangle down.
Opposing team members WEAR THE BELT AROUND THEIR MIDDLES, WITH THE STRING/TAPE HANGING AT THE BACK. The string should not be too long, or too short (for reasons that will soon become apparent if you try it). They then vie to manouvre the sellotape roll over the neck of the bottle without using their hands -
This is much harder than it may seem, as the roll hangs almost vertical, you have little control of the string so the contestants will contort themselves wonderfully while trying to do this. It can be done. Its a real hoot:rotfl:Taking control, slowly.:rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Hi all,
Our family love playing games over Christmas. Here's a few ideas for silly stuff that's kept us entertained:
THE NAME GAME (great for 10+ people, 7years +)
Players are divided into two equal times. Organiser (who plays as well) gives everyone a piece of paper and pen. Each player (including organiser) writes the name of a famous person / character (anyone everyone will have heard of) on the paper, folds it up and puts it into a jug (without telling anyone who they've put down). Organiser reads out to the group the names in the jug, twice slowly. Players try to remember as best they can the names that are read out. Play commences by Team A asking one person in the Team B if they are X (one of the characters read out). E.g. Jane, are you Winnie the Pooh? If Jane is Winnie the Pooh, she replies yes and joins Team A. Team A can then keep asking players in Team B questions until they get a no answer. If Jane isn't Winnie the Pooh (and she mustn't lie) then she answers no, stays where she is and play swaps to Team B. The aim of the game is twofold: 1. to not be identified yourself (so the best players pick characters that others wouldn't guess) and 2. to identify everyone in the opposite team that you are on, bearing in mind that you'll end up switching teams during the game. Note: If Jane is guessed as Winnie the Pooh and moves to Team A, once play swaps to Team B and they have a go, they can't ask her again and get her back until a new player has been identified. This results in once someone new is guessed, trying to remember everyone else already identified correctly to bring up the numbers in your team. The game ends when either everyone is identified or only one player is left on Team A or B in which case they are the winner.
If anyone has a remote controlled car in the family, good fun can be had by creating an obstacle course around the house and each member of the family doing timed circuits. It can get very competitive!
A quiz can be fun, particularly when as in our house, everyone gets to be the quizmaster. People have to be told in advance for this one. Each player prepares a round of questions (number depending on how long, how many people playing). So long as each round is worth the same number of points it doesn't matter that the quizmaster isn't participating in that round as it'll happen to everyone at some point during the game. Also if you have lots of players, splitting people into pairs means the pair still score when one is quizmaster. It's a laugh as people pick a real variety of questions. Last year we had guess the advertising slogans, trying to remember all the states in the US, estimation questions e.g. how high would the tower be if you placed £1 million pound coins on top of each other (that's my uncle who actually works these things out! and no, I can't remember the answer!).
Anyway, the moral of the story is no need to spend lots of money on expensive games, plenty of free fun to be had over Christmas! Enjoy it.0 -

We play this almost every year and its great fun, to make it harder you can only answer yes or no. E.g. Am I a woman? Am I alive? Am I in films?
We did this one year and my dad and boyfriend had to write each others and without knowing they labelled each other God and Jesus it took them both about an hour to gues with everyone else creased laughingOfficial DFW Nerd - 3990 -

I have been told about a similar version of this, although instead of rolls of sellotapte you tie a pencil to a piece of string and hang it at the front, to about knee length. A row of wine bottle for each team is in place and the idea is to get the pencil completely into the wine bottle before moving onto the next. Apparently it takes quite a lot of bending and hip thrusting back and forth!!!! When a player has completed all the bottles in their line they run back to their team and the next person goes so it's like a relay. I am reliably informed the games is called 'Dingle your Dangle'!0 -
Don't know if some of these ideas have already been posted, as I didn't have time to read through them all, but this is what I did one year (mixture of adults and children)
Messy pass the parcel:
* Make up the parcel as usual, but with streamers/table confetti/cut up curling ribbon etc to make some messy layers.
* Two tubs - 1 with dares in (we did things like put on red lippy and blow a theatrical kiss to every person who opens a layer for the rest of the game saying "well done luvvie"!....my Dad got that one) In the other "chance" tub write on pieces of paper pass to left/pass to right or keep the dare. The had the kids and the adults on the edge of their seats!
Play as you would with pass the parcel, but thoses who open messy layers have to take a dare and then get a chance.
If you get a dare you must continue to do it for the rest of the game everytime a layer is opened.
Suggestions for further dares:- quotes from films/TV (eg:Little Britian)
Dress up the Boys:
Two dressing up boxes with hair stuff, make up and dresses. Split the kids into 2 teams and each team had to dress up a boy and wrap them in wrapping paper and unwrap them for the adults to judge (the lads got scarily into character!!) we then went straight on to open all the presents so the lads didn't run to take it all off thus had most of their xmas pics taken in drag!!
Two handed gift wrapping:-
Using a scarf/tie pair people up and tie their left/right arms together (as with 3 legged race) using the 2 outer arms they must gift-wrap a present, put on the ribbon and bow and write the tag. All can then vote for the best wrapped gift.
I am working Christmas day night this year, so thinking up some games we can do even if it's busy.
Hope this helps someone

Fluffy Bunnies
Take a willing group of victims(sorry party goers) lol
1/2 dozen bags or tubs of marshmallows, big ones if u can, and a bucket _pale_
In turn each player has to pop a marshmallow in their mouth, 1 at a time, and say "FLUFFY BUNNIES" .
they must then keep that marshamallow in their mouth , NO chewing, sucking, swallowing. allowed.
Each turn the player adds another and another etc.. each time saying FB after each one. until the mouth is sooooooooo full of MM they can hardly speak, are consequently feeling rather green round the gills, and spits them out..
The obvious winner is the one with most MM in their mouth at the end..
be warned- u will need the bucket... !BSC Member #97- Discharged 4/2/09

Last night we had a little Bonfire/Halloween Tea Party and DS 12 introduced us to the game of 'Fluffy Bunnies' - it was so funny!!
Basically all you need is a bowl of marshmallows (lots depending on how many are playing!). The idea is to pass the bowl to each player, they then put a marshmallow in their mouth (without eating it) and say 'Fluffy Bunnies', this continues round to see how many marshmallows you can store in your mouth and still be able to say 'Fluffy Bunnies' with clarity.
.......You'll not each a marshmallow for a long time......but definitely worth a try!
I managed 6, OH & DS1 (15) managed 9, DS2 (12) did 9 and DD (5) just 3 (bless,little cute mouth :T ).
Great fun.:j0 -
I am really spooked - I did my post without reading the updated ones and have just noticed the previous thread to mine......how weird is that
Sorry Wobblebottom - somebody please feel free to delete mine!0 -
Hi,
We always play a game named the present game.
To start you buy about 20-25 small presents (cheap things e.g car air freshner, pack of cards, small toys, soap etc all depending on the age of the players) - (Or use up some of your freebies that you have colleceted through the year!!)
Wrap them all up individually.
You will need two packs of cards - firstly you deal out one pack to all of the paople that are playing (you will need one person to be dealer and not play - usually the person who has organised the game)
The dealer then goes through the second pack and calls out the card - whoever has the matching card from the first pack gets a present, which they unwrap and put on the floor/table in front of them so everyone can see it.
When all the presents are gone you continue to go through the pack but when a player has the card they get to 'Take' one of the presents from the table.
The person holding the last card gets to take the best prize.
To make the game really interesting have one prize that is a lot better than all of the rest (we have been known to use a £5 or £10 note!!) Its great fun to watch everyone taking the prizes and at the end the end everyone has got something to take home!!:T
We have done adult versions of this in which you can use minitures of alcohol, toiletries etc and the best prize a bottle of wine/spirit.

We've played this game too, but with a couple of variations - we have some booby prozes e.g. a small block of wood, bar of soap, etc and don't unwrap the presents until the end, so, as the organiser you can make the rubbish prizes look much more appealing than they are and sit sniggering to yourself as people keep taking the same present from each other and at the end find out it was an a cotton reel wrapped in lots of boxes or something! Children especially tend to go for the larger presents!
I admit, it does take a while to set up, but it is well worth it. We had a variety of ages playing and had LOTS of fun! Hope you do too!0
