1st job in 3 years...Right tax code?

Options
Hi,

I have been employed with my current employer since March this year, £30k a year. Tax code 647L. Is this the right tax code? I've not been in work for a few years as looking after my children. Was wondering if i should contact tax office to enquire a rebate?

Many thanks for any info!!

647L is the standard tax code for an individual, so unless you have any benefits in kind or anything unusual it's probably right.

Did you get paid in March? Yes, you started work then, but did you actually get paid?

If so, was that payment made using the correct tax code? Check your March payslip/P60. Unless you're massively well paid, you probably shouldn't have paid any tax at all.

Agree that 647L is *likely* to be right for this year, but there's a chance you might have overpaid tax in the last financial year (up to 5 April) if you went onto an emergency code.
