Owners of Sizzix Big Shot and Cuttlebugs please can you help

Afternoon

Afternoon

My amazing and wonderful mum bought me a sizzix big shot machine for Christmas. Something I am under no illusion will be well used but having not owned one before I am unsure of the best dies to start with, I already think an alphabet set would be a good way forward as can be used on numerous projects (but which one they are all gorgeous) What I would really like to ask is what dies would you not be without, or believe were a good investment.

I have had a look at some websites and if I am not careful could well spend an entire months wages on die cuts etc. Lol

I have it on good authority that the Cuttlebug dies fit the sizzix too hence the title.
Thank you in advance.

I love my big shot machine, I'm sure you will have fun with yours. My favourite and most used dies are the flowered layered ones, current favourite is the Tim Holtz tattered florals, if you google that for images you will see what people have done with it, also on my list of faves are the birds and different style of tags. It is a personal choice thing though and will depend on what you want to make with them and what your own style is. I got some alphabets to start with but then ended up selling them because I didn't use them. I mostly make cards, scrapbooking and some gifts with mine and now find it quicker to type or stamp any messages, lifes to short to be fiddling about putting glue on the back of little letters :rotfl:

oh just thought the other thing I love to use are the embossing folders, they make great affects on cards.

  • Look on ebay they often start really cheap, good tip is to look out for unbranded ones there are a few sellers out there. They fit the machine cut really well and just dont have the make on.
  • Thank you both very much, have been browsing eBay and they have some fab items. I think I will get a 2nd hand alphabet set and see how I go and am just picking up circles and squares etc to start with and then just upping my collection slowly but surely. I really like the laying of the flowers and the tim hotlz ones are fab.

    Thanks

Hi, I have a Big Shot and love it. I only bought it this year and use it all the time. I make cards and use Spellbinders Nestabilities a lot to cut out stamped images, ebay is a good place to look and some craft suppliers do discounts if you purchase more than one set at a time. I also like the Nellie Snellen dies, much much cheaper than Nestabilities and lovely shapes. Marianne Designs also do lovely dies, as does Magnolia. Ooohhh I could go on forever :o. I try and pick dies to buy that I know I will use many times.

A magnetic sheet is a good thing to buy if you have a few dies as they stick to it so they are easier to store. They tend to come in A4 or A5 sizes. I can fit my 6 complete sets of Nestabilities on 1 A4 sheet.

Have lots of fun with your new toy x
