knitting in usa?

i have started to browse on ebay.com for knitting kits as they have alot more aailable but besides a difference in needle sizes which i already know about, is there anything else i should be aware of befoe tackling a knitting pattern from usa?

    The yarns are different thicknesses too. There are some conversion charts somewhere, but they are best fit rather than exact equivalents.

    I have been racking my brain trying to remember where I saw it. I have a feeling it may be in the files of a UK Knitting yahoo email list. I cannot check as i am no longer a member.

    They use different terms for things such as 'cast off' is 'bind off' and I think the abbreviations are different too - so make sure you read the instructions carefully and not assume that K1B is knit 1 through back of stitch- it could be K1 below.
    and as mentioned the yarn weights are approximate - but if purchasing a kit you should have enough yarn if knitted on the correct size needles.
    otherwise - Try one! and DO post back to tell us how it turned out - with pics would be nice!

  • If you Google ravelry and sign up, you will find the information you need, needle equivalents, yarn weights and suggestions for substitutions
    I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
