New TV Broken ? warrantee

Hi there Just incase anyone can help here...
Bought the kids a clearance 32" lcd for christmas. have unwrapped it and it wont even turn on. We purchased the Whatever happens instant replacement thing on it but my husband has said that they will only refnd it as it was a massive bargain and not replace it.
This is a problem as the children now expect to have this tv that they have unwrapped but we would not have bought it if we had to soend several hundred quid onit.
Are they obliged to replace it ???

  • You bought the insurance for it to be replaced whatever, so it will be replaced, should be replaced even just under the guarantee.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

To be honest, they would replace it under the normal guarantee, if you are within the time to cancel the insurance they really are a waste of money, you would be better putting a tenner away a month in a separate account for any repairs.
If it hasnt cost £120 in the first your then you are £120 better off. £240 after 2 years. See what I mean.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    Well update folks.
HS retailer replaced the TV with one of equiv spec but costing them an extra £190 ! result !! This was due to having the instant replacement bit on the product which cost £11.99 !
Thank you for advice folks xxx
