Wonga troubles

Hello

i know its cheeky using this as a first post, i do apologies but this seems to be the best place for help.

I currently have a short term loan with wonga and had a due date of 20/12/2010. Unfortunatly because of certain finacial issues i knew i was going to be unable to make this payment on time. i looked at the extension of the loan and was also unable to afford the payment fee for this aswell. I sent an email to the customer service team explaining that i would be unable to pay this but would like to speak to someone to make an agreement that i can pay the extend loan fee on friday 24/12/2010 as that would be when i would have the finaces to pay this.

3 or 4 e-mails were sent between me and wonga until eventually they email asking me to contact the services team to discuss this. so i did just that. i explained my situation to the guy and he said not to worry and to call back on friday and pay the fee for my loan to be extended.

so eventually it came to today and i have gone to my bank account to find all my funds gone. As i had not recived anything contact from anyone saying they would be collecting on that day i thought my card had been cloned. so i popped to the bank and asked whos taken this money. the bank were unable to tell me who had taken the funds. i returned home and thought i would give wonga a call to see if they had any part in this. it turns out they did and have taken as much in my account as they could (this still is not the whole loan amount) when asked about it i told them i had contacted them by email and phone. after a long winded process of them trying to find the call they tell me they cant find it. i then sent over copies of the emails. after being on hold for 15 or so minutes i am then informed that the manager will not be giving me a refund as he needs to hear the call. i then asked to speak to the manager directly and was on hold for another 15 or so minutes until i was eventually cut off.

i have since then tried to call back 3 times only to be on hold for 30 minutes and eventually cut off, until on the 4th time i was put through to a member of staff who wasnt willing to listen and only gave his answers like a robot, not listening in anyway to the situation.

what i need to know is, if i have contacted them regarding this before the due date do i have a case and can they just take out how ever much they feel like, because on the due date they will only accept the full amount not half like they have taken today

i would be thankful for any help on this as im sure you can appriciate i am in a really tough finacial position now.

thanks in advance

  • It is in your t&c's that you authorise wonga to take payments when your account is due or in default and they will do this relentlessly. If the whole loan is not completely paid of they will grab any money that appears in your account and keep charging interest on what is due. So if your whole loan is not entirely paid off now you might want to make sure no more money appears in your account or they will grab that as well.
There's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

    do i have a case?

No chance, you ALLOWED them to do exactly this when you signed up for their service.

You should always read what you have signed.

Plentiful as they are, these posts are probably the most cringeworthy. From your description it sounds like you took this loan with absolutely no intention or funds ever to pay this back on time.

I guess this was the case in the first place but that lure of cash got the better of you rather than post on here the difficulties you face.

As you are finding out now, taking out payday loans to supplement your income just leads to more misery. Not only do you have your existing problems to cope with, but also Wonga simply following their own T&C's which you didn't see.

Best to get into the DFW Board and post an SOA, as for Wonga, if it is at all possible for you, let them take all they are owed, they won't go away and everyday you fail to repay is even more money you will owe them.

Can you borrow elsewhere and weather the storm?
