Need help finding a bed/mattress please

Hi guys im currently on the look out for a new bed, either a double or a king size.

Ideally I would not want a divan and would like a memory foam mattress with medium/firm. I would like to spend £500 tops is possible to be honest.

Ive looked at the search results and theres lots of threads but all they do is say how every mattress has asked about is bad and then there are no links to ones they find are good. So they arent much help.

So im hoping someone could point me in the right direction

Most of the threads have said the good features to look out for. When there have been negative remarks they have usually been balanced with the positives (if there were any). The trouble is that there are so many available on the market, and most have been designed for commercial reasons, rather than what is best for the customer. Obviously you can pick and choose what positive features you want to include in your selection. But I personally am not allowed to recommend anything on MSE, as it could be viewed as advertising.

I just need to know some brands or names that are good so I can compare them? That wouldnt be advertising. it would be providing helpful information for me :P

All I can say is to avoid most of the big brand names, as most have lowered quality in recent years (probably to cut production costs). Stick with smaller independent manufacturers as many still make the mattresses by hand, and have skilled craftsmen who take pride in their work, rather than production line workers on automated lines.

I dont know what are the small names if im honest Google isnt much help as obviously the big names dominate the search

Well as most of the bed industry is in the Yorkshire area, try googling bed manufacturers in Yorkshire. Then rule out the brands that are sold in the big chain stores.

I see places such as bedlam beds etc selling la romantica mattresses which seem to be okay. However they dont deliver to northern ireland!!
