Hi all, we were in one of our local stores the other day and saw a poster for the calais wardrobe set, we presumed it was on special so thought we would treat ourselves to two sets
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&searchTerms=6415950 they also do the smaller wardrobe http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6415383.htm
Just happened to be flicking throught the catalogue and realised that is the normal selling price.
Now we were just wondering if anyone has brought one and if it is any good or if it is just cheap wood priced up wrong:rolleyes: I understand you pay for what you get but I am worried this is going to be flimsy so don't know wether to return it or not(it isn't due to be delivered till the 7th so don't know whether I can just cancel over the phone). any comments good or bad greatfully recieved

I have on order (although not for much longer) the Reflections bedroom set of furniture:
3 Door Wardrobe
1 Door Wardrobe
Corner Wardrobe
Overhead cupboards
I have already recieved 2 of the bedside tables and the quality of these items has made me cancel my order for the rest of the set and get argos to come and collect the bedside tables and refund me.
They were of the worst quality I could have ever imagined. They arent real wood, they are just chipboard with a cover to give the wooden effect. This cover was badly put on and at the corners was all chipped. Then to add to that, the drawers for the tables would not lye flush with each other. This made the whole unit look absolute c**p! I was quite shocked. For around £150 more, ive ordered some fitted units from MFI which I know will be better quality than the rubbish Argos put out!
My advice, get them and see how they turn out, I may have been unlucky, but always remember that you've got 16days to make up your mind and they will come and collect it for free!0 -
Hi mooseepoo,
thanks for your advice, I take it they will still give me a refund if I open the box and make up say the bedside cabinet, or can I just open it and look at the quality, I would like you say spend that little bit more (clubcard vouchers
) and get it from mfi to know that the quality should be better

I got a Manhattan wardrobe from Argos ( meant to be £149.99) and was not impressed by the quality. It was murder to build with holes missing etc so I now avoid Argos furniture .0

I would 1st look at the quality of the parts you get, if there are any damaged parts then ring argos and get them to take it bk. If there is no visable damage to the unit then you can attempt to build it. If this then turns out to be defective in any way, then ring argos and get them to come and collect it and take it away.
I have totally fallen out with argos recently. Im trying to furnish my new apartment and argos keep delaying all of my furniture. I ordered at the end of sept for delivery at the end of Oct. The other day I got a letter from them to say it wouldnt be here until end of Nov/early Dec time. Not happy, so as I said, I went to MFI and got some furniture which is twice the quality of the rubbish that argos put out!0 -
We brought the "scandinavia" range for son's bedroom and were impressed with how sturdy it is. Assembles well too. More expensive but worth it in my opinion.0

We have bought many items of flat packed furniture from Argos over the years and you do get what you pay for.
However even the cheapest items have been easy to put together and none of it has subsequently fallen apart. Flat packed furniture from other "High Street" stores (excludes Ikea) has been far worse.
I have even bought Argos surplus/returns off of eBay and they have been fine too.
No experience with Calais though...That's Numberwang!0 -
Thank you for all your replys, I suppose I will just wait for the delivery to turn up and see the quality then, hubby really isn't looking forward to the build, and as we have two lots I cannot wait :rotfl: Would they give me a refund on the delivery costs???0

Nope as you would have physically had the items delivered

We bought the (very similar) Genoa set for £149.95 about 18 months ago - and replaced it about 9 months ago.
Awful quality chipboard, even for the price (and we've never bought expensive furniture) - drawer bases forever falling out, drawer sides splitting where the screws/bolts fitted, and the wardrobe itself developing a rather worrying wobble everytime you opened a door (however gently).
We replaced it all with the Aviemore (pine) range - great quality, much stronger and sturdier, and often on offer so not much worse price-wise.
