for the second time my epson printer of mine has showed both mains and error lights flashing. The printer wasnt working again . i contacted epson who were no help. However a find a utility on the net called epson repair utility whiuch then reset my counters and now my printer is as good as new. Epson printers have this feature built in when the waste ink pads need cleaning a minor job yet without this utiliuty i would have bought a new printer ,. googling for this utility will find a free download so if you,ve got similar problems try it , What can you lose

Do remember though that the counter is there for a reason : ie the pads in the printer are getting saturated with ink. You should not just use the utility (probably the SSC Service Utility v4.10) but actually take the printer to bits and either replace or clean the pads. Had this happen to two C46 printers at 8300 prints and the pads really were saturated - the SSC resetter specifically asks "have you replaced the pads".
To clean the pads make sure you work in an area where the ink cant do any permanent damage - eg stainless steel sink area - wear rubber gloves and thoroughly flushout the ink (running cold water) before slowly drying the pads and reinserting. If you don't you run the risk of the ink overflowing and damaging not only your printer but the area of your home around your printer.0 -
I normally absorb those pads with kitchen roll. The pad at the back of the R300 dont get soaked for me, the two others either side of the printer do. I had problems recently of a ink cartridge leaking it took me ages to clean the printer up and flush the jets, the epson printer util is a great utility,0

I know this was posted some years ago, but can anyone tell me if I can still get hold of this software?
My Epson printer has both mains and fault lights flashing, so I would hope to try this solution.
Thanks0 -

Sorry, yes. I thought there was something a bit more extensive. This utility is about ink cartridges by the look of it.0

It is yes, but when the printer thinks that the pads will be full it causes a shutdown and flashing lights which need a reset to get them working again, just watch the pads dont overflow as it causes a right mess if you reset and dont change/empty the pads , you can also divert the tube that feeds the pads into a small bottle at the back of the printer so you don't have to worry about pads overflowing again.0 -
Well! I now consider myself a printer expert! (yeh, right).
I dismantled my Epson 1290 almost down to the bare chassis, and removed the waste resevoir assembly. I washed it under warm water and let it dry thoroughly. Replacement of all the bits and screws was also a challenge!
When I switched the printer back on, I still got the flashing lights, although I now knew that all the crud had been cleared from the waste dump.I'm afraid that using the SSC utility did NOT reset it.
I found a link that I cannot publish which directs you to a website. PM me if you want the link
Which explains how to reset the fault lights from the front panel.
I now have a working printer again!
Not a job I would recommend to anyone unless your options include buying a new one (cheaper than a repair!!), or wanted an interesting way to spend an afternoon.
Thanks to everyone!0 -

Hi,
Could you please send me the link if still available
Many thanks0 -
This is for some Epson printers, use your usual e-mail, select USA, select the printer, put the serial number, click get activation key. It will arrive with a link to download the reset utility. Download and run it, enter the serial number and activation key. Only worth using if the waste ink pads have been cleaned or replaced

Most PX printers are called artisan in the USA so you will probably need to look for the closest one, if there isn't anything and you do download and run it, it may say no suitable printer installed, nonetheless, worth a go as the SSC utility is no longer being updated as far as I know, and so mainly covers older printers0
