renting after br

Hi

My Girlfriend and I are looking to move in together as I am bankrupt can she put the rental agreement in her name alone?

  • Hi Strangey,
Don't think you're going to get an answer on this as it very much depends upon who you rent from - some agents insist all adults are on the agreement, some might not - you'll have to bite the bullet and ask at the time.
FWIW - we're just doing the same thing and have found a local landlord that's OK with our situation that's similar to yours, and hoping to move next week - so if you get any knock-backs keep asking you will get sorted if you keep trying :)

  • I agree with lbm.

The agency I rent through use an income multiplier eg. If the rent is £600 you have to have an income of £1200. If your gfs income is enough to satisfy a similar criteria then she may be able to have the lease in her name only.

I'd just ask a few local agencies and see what they say.

    Hi Strangey84,

When we moved into our first rental property, we told them our situation (DH would be going BR once all paperwork etc sorted) they asked for 6 mths rent up front, luckily we had help from the British Legion with that, we then moved from that property after a very short period of time, due to issues at the property and found the place we are currently in through a letting agent, told them DH's situation and all we had to do is write a letter explaining our situation to the letting manager, all was ok, didn't even have to pay 6 mths rent in advance, been here for 7 mths now and looking to re-new after christmas.

Wish you all the luck. )

    Hi,
Go to gumtree-i found my current private landlord via gumtree as my credit file is shocking and im conidering going BR in January 2010.
www.gumtree.com is the best place. As a full time student parent,i didnt think i'd find a nice house to live in with bad credit and as a student.

I moved in my house on 16th Oct 2010 for six months and i'm definately looking forward to extending it.

    Goodluck.
