Okay I live with my mum and she's currently remortgaging for a better term and rate. She's a single parent and I'm the only child left living at home.
I currently pay £127 (£27 was being saved towards Farepak  so I've got her to open an ISA instead). Anyhoo I normaly pay £100 rent this is low because (before anyone winges at me!)
1) I buy own own food
2) I tidy the house weekly
3) We go half on the phone bill (I never use it!! so I pay for her to have broadband - only about £13 each a month)
4) We have shared ownership of currently 4 dogs (it's like having kids but they never grow up!), it's my responsiblity to maintain them.. ie walks, brushes etc..
Anyway.. we both rely on each other for various reasons. Anyway.. her mortgage payment will go up by £80 a month.. Do you think it reasonable I pay an extra £40 rent (my half so to speak??). I know £167 is a bargain (at double the price!) but I really want to get my debt sorted out, but obviously I don't to rip my mum off??

I am not really sure how to answer this

You have a good arrangement at the moment. Does your mom need the extra £40? If not, can you keep it and throw at the debts instead? Obviously, if she needs it, then by all means, split the increase in half.Leason learnt :beer:0 -
Exactly.. I know I have a good arrangement and don't want to rock any boats!
Well not before I'm ready!!!
I think she would struggle with the full amount, so £40 is fair I guess, but obviously the less the better for me!
The only reason I ask is because she never named a figure.. she just said to me what do you think is fair.. well fair is 50/50 I guess.. even if I'd prefer £0!!!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

In that case, I think you should go with the £40 - keep the arrangement going smoothly as well as a very reasonable rent still!Leason learnt :beer:0

I agree that it does only seem fair to split the increase 50/50, however, do you and your mum earn equal salaries? does mum have as much debt as you do? If the mortgage is her only debt then she may be happy for you not to give her any more and if you were to move out then she would have to find the whole amount anyway!DMP starts June 2012, £38,180.
