***New*** Thrifty Gifty Money Making for Christmas and all occasions 2011***

Challenge 1: January 2011.
1. THE AIM IS TO MAKE £50 ON EBAY. (after all ebay/paypal fees and postage has been taken into account).
Have a sort out and see if there's any presents you received that you don't like and can re-gift. If there's something you wouldn't give to your worst enemy. List that.
Regifted as much as possible, and been kind and donated some stuff to charity shop
Have a sort through the kids toys and list anything they haven't played with in a while.
Got some ready to go in the free adds, be nearer summer - outdoor toys!!
Have a general de-clutter and see what else you can find. You may be amazed. If you've not done eBay before give it a go - it's a bit addictive.
I've got a few things ready, but am having the 1st bedroom declutter of the yr and Miss Hoodies room, so I'm going to have to be cheeky and carry my Ebay bit to Feb.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2. OPEN A SEPARATE CHRISTMAS SAVINGS ACCOUNT.
If you haven't already, can you open a separate savings account for Christmas money? It will be so much easier for you.
I've found an old online account - set up £10 a month (all helps out)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3.SAVE UPTO £5 WHEN YOU DO YOUR SHOPPING
When you do your shopping, at the bottom of the till receipt it says 'You have saved' sometimes it might say £20 and sometimes if you only go in for a few bits it might say £1.28
Put the amount you have saved into your Christmas savings account - upto a maximum of £5.
For example - if you save £20 - put in £5 and if you save £1.28 put in that.
:eek:That's brilliant idea - were putting the £5 up towards petrol for hols - pay for riding around
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
4. Save for January sales!
Find a sealed money box, and everytime you come home from shopping, empty your purse of all the coppers (silver too if you want to save more), but make sure you have put the money aside for the challenge above first.
This is not to be opened UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - this will be opened on the 17th December (a week before Christmas) in readiness for the Sales. :j
Sorry to say but Miss Hoodie got there 1st - has loose change for whens older, set up a little nest egg, and 50ps towards swimming with dolphins - bank monthly - put a note in - be with you in a round about way!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This seems like a lot, but the hard work is going to be the eBay one. Remember you have a whole month to complete it, so don't rush. Take your time!!!
List a few items a week, and let it run it's course. Then list a few more. This is not a competition who can earn the most - it's a challenge to see if YOU can earn £50 by turning unwanted stuff into money.

Meant to say the challenges are brilliant, sorry I've had to change me ways around, but am following in a fashion as they say xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
real toothfairy hey hun, how are you? hope you had a good xmas and happy new year to you and your family, big hugs xxx
elysia ooooooo oh dear, what have i done!!!!.........:shocked: :undecided i've started an item on ebay!! not listed it yet tholmao its took me ages to go thro the page and i still havent done a proper description yet lol i've saved it for now, gonna find out how i can package it up and see how heavy it will be and look on the postage, which is the thing i am most scared of, is there any rules that i need to stick by with the packing of it? i've heard of sellers adding extra for packaging and 'handling' as they call it. i've tried the royal mail thing and as it is with no wrapping its £1.72p i think, so i'm going to wrap it up and take it to the post office to double check to see if i got it right then i might feel abit more confident about that bit.
and also, how much do you get charged by ebay if things are over the 99p

I think ebay be crashing the amount thats been listed, but its a good way fo clearing out the stock, and also you can add the prices up. I'm mixed of free days, as I think there better for buyers as they have more choice, worse for sellers as your competating, but you haven't got to start something at 99p. Have to admit missed this one, get some stuff listed around end of month. Without sounding daft I sell Miss Hoodies summer clothes about Feb, espically swimwear it flies out, I start at 99p, but we've a swimsuit go before for £7.. but guess people go away half term, and want the items for hol before waiting for the shops. xx
Sorry noticed earlier someone mentioned 75% off at Boots is that all shops are just hit and miss? xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Hey Milla....Yeah Xmas was good. How was yours hun??
Re: Ebay when listing item it comes up with some postage costs....sometimes they work!! But I always take into account wrapping etc. I sold some clothing items and if I can remember rightly I charged £3 something for postage. Also its a good idea to do a search on the item you are selling to see what others are charging on postage etc. HTH xxNever buys anything at full price unless completely forced to do so!!! :whistle:0 -

I'm not sure if they are still allowing people to join up as alot of people from MSE had their accounts closed (cant remember why!!)

I think you may have been referring to my post? I'm not sure about other stores but my local Boots has a clearance section on toys. The odd thing is alot of the toys weren't in the christmas 3for2 deal and some are new additions to Boots, but I'm not complaining. It is seperate from the 75% off sale (not sure if or when that's happening).
If you are after toys it may well be worth a look in your local Boot's clearance section. I spent £50 of my boots points on £200 worth of toys. Which toys are included will be down to the individual store so can be very hit or miss.
Very happy as I usually rush to store for the 75% sale to get toys but the kids have done so well already, just the adults left now :jComping wishlist for 2017
1. Family holiday 2. Christmas presents :rudolf: 3. Fishing stuffThe more you put into life, the more you get out0 -

I thought I would help and get things up and running again.
I do hope I'm helping everyone - and not preaching. I'm just tying to pass on what I learned last year, and trying to keep the motivation going.

Rufus - I've been thinking of you - How's your £20 dooyoo challenge coming along? Nicely I hope. Don't forget to keep up with your clicks.
I got £13 on Ebay after all as I have some free stamps I can use to post the parcel off today so thats a bit towards it. I still have a £20 cheque on the way and a £11 voucher from TCB so thats £44 so far this month.0 -
Hi
I'm a lurker rather than a poster on here, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU to you all, because I have listed my first ever things on ebay today thanks to the challenge on here
I still haven't joined 2loona but am doing most of the other survey sites. It's a shame I was one of the thrifty-giftys who got banned frrom bp a couple of years back - it sounds like you're having fun on there.
I already save my £2 coins - I've just banked £200 after opening last years a few days ago :j:D
Hi Skiergirl, I remember you from before and I too was one of the banned ones, I feel really left out with them all having such a great time on there.
I have got about £22 in my £2 tin so really I have gone over the £50 for this month, just not all on Ebay.
I have some bits of card left over from my card making days, some nice bits like glitter and gold or silver that kind of thing. Most of it is only bits and pieces but a few whole sheets. Do any of you think it would sell if I did it up in packs on Ebay? And if so should I put all the glitter together etc or would it be better to mix it up a bit? I know a lot of you make cards these days, would you look for this kind of thing on there? Any advice appreciated, Rufus xx0
