OMG - I have a job interview on Wednesday

After being a stay at home mum since 2002 and ds now at pre-school, I have decided to bite the bullett and go for a part time office job.

This job is though an agency I went to last week. It is 15 hours split over 5 days. The agency said that the company were fairly flexible with the hours, I am hoping for 2 mornings, 2 afternoons and 1 day anytime. It is advertised as 5 mornings.

Firstly any interview techniques on how to steal the job. Secondly when / how should I approach the situation regarding hours. I really want the job it is about 200 yards from where I live and give me a bit of independence and earn a bit of cash, which me and dd are already saving for a holiday in florida in the foreseeable future!

  • Be yourself, be confident and dont look too desperate! Its always good to have a bit of knowlegde about the company and you must have some ask questions to ask!

I always look for jobs with flexible hours to fit around childcare and fortunately Ive always been lucky. The reason they may have stated mornings is because it may be a job share, but you will find this out at the interview and if it isnt I would defo ask about working the days that you would like.

All the best and try not to stress, I know thats easier said than done.

search this board for 'interview' and you will find some other tips.

Ask them what their preferred hours are and why, and if you are prepared to be flexible then say so. If you only want to do what you described, then say that too. But as pp said, they may want a jobshare, or they may want cover at a particular time of day.

    good luck ...

Best tip I was ever given was to answer every question fully in particular the "give an example when" type ones. So if it was something like give an example when you have had to deal with a customer complaint you should say 1) what the situation was 2) what you did 3) what the outcome was 4) what you learnt/ what you would do differently 5) if you are really good what you did with the lessons learnt (eg suggested a change to prevent it happening again etc)

There is nothing more frustrating as an interviewer to ask someone the above question and all you get as an answer is something like "some bloke called 'n' said he aint received what he'd ordered". If you dont put them straight in the no pile you then have to probe for all the other aspects of the answer you were expecting.
