Softening jam

:hello:
I making a Victoria sponge later. I want to use my mum's damson jam in the middle, but it's set a bit hard & is difficult to spread. How can I soften it so I can get a nice even covering without ripping the sponge to pieces?
I'd guess to warm it up, but what's the best way?
Thanks,
MBE

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Or you can add a splash of boiling water to a hefty blob of jam in a dish and stir until it loosens up. I do this with plum jam as it always seems to be quite firm0

I'd put a few tablespoons of it in a cereal bowl and keep nuking for 20 sec bursts and then stir. That way you avoid the boiling-jam-molten-lava scenario, which is never fun.
Have fun,

Ok then, that should work nicely, thank you.

If the cake is for adults you can loosen the jam over heat in a sauce pan or double boiler with a coplimentary alcohol too.0

There wasn't much more left in the jar than I needed, so in the end I put it on the radiator for a bit. Worked a treat.
