Change of circs do I need to tell WTC?

Hi
My husband and I were just self employed a few weeks ago and recive Working Tax Credit on the basis that I work 40 hours a week on a joint claim basis on a very low income (almost non existant). We rely on Tax credits to pay most of our household bills at the moment.
However last week my husband started part time employment hes paid by cheque weekly, hasnt been asked for his P60. He works 5 hours a day 5 days a week. His income is £5.5o an hour so in effect not a lot has changed in the eyes of WTC people, but to us our income has increased!
Do I really need to tell them these change of circumstances? I dont want to be caught with overpayment and having to pay them back thats why im asking.
Thanks
Heddwen

I would definitely tell them - so many people here have been caught out with over payments & it's pushed them over into not meeting minimum payments! Also, if you don't tell them a change of circumstance they're going to be even harsher when they find out & probably demand full reimbursement immediately rather than taking it from future paymentsTotal Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

I would tell the WTC about the change, just to be on the safe side.
Has your husband filled in a P46, he should have been asked for a P45 and if he didn't have one, given a P46.
Check on his payslip what his tax code is and possibly contact the tax office to check it's ok.
Is he still self-employed, or has that now ceased?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Ok I will maybe call them tomorrow or should I leave it a while to make sure hussbands trial period works out ok?
I pray they dont put the WTC amount down as it means it would be a disaster as we couldnt pay the bills and were already struggling and facing our debts!
I am searching for employment myself but being a mid 3o's female with few up to date qualifications no one wants me! I cant afford to go back and retrain so I will have to pick up a cleaning job again or something.
Thanks all so far

Hi
He has no P60 or P45 weve had pt evening cleaning jobs each winter over the past 5 years of his trading Self Employed just to struggle through. But this time we are going all out to get jobs long term and hopefully not going to give them up next spring when the business bookings pick up again. I am still classed as Self Employed also.
He is still self employed at the moment as well as employed. However his pt employment has reduced the amunt of time he can work self employed (if that makes sense?) so apart from after 3pm and all day Sat and Sun he is limited to bookings he can take.
As his Self Employment is as a mobile valeter (car cleaning) and the bad weather of winter is aproaching it means bookings have tailed off anyhow. However he has 2 garages he does the forecourts for that brings in a good amount each month but this is swalowed up by the business account as thats in debt too and the bank refuses to freeze the charges to help us to help ourselves so its a no win situation!
Thanks

Tell them of any change of circumstances. Well thats in fact what we did three weeks ago. Back in May we claimed as MrJudi was self employed. Shortly after a period of going back 'on the books' i was concerned because his wage was significantly higher than when he was self employed because he was given expenses for working out of town. I was convinced that we were going to have the lot taken off us and would probably have to pay some back but i dont know how they have worked it, but they are only taking £5 a week off us. Its worth telling them for the peace of mind. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
