I think you're talking about Haselnusssternchen. If it's the fluffy cinnamonny ones try these, but if they're the filled ones this is a decent approximation.

    Or try these?

    Sugarspun thanks for these.
I was going to make shortbread with the kids tomorrow but fancy the last recipe. Is cornstarch the same as cornflour?

from reading the recipes the first one sounds closest, I remember them as being deliciously nutty and chewy

Thank you, if I can find time tomorrow I will give them a try. x

Yes, it's a thickening agent and called something else in the US is all :)

    Enjoy!

  • Zimtsterne are the ones. thank you all very much for looking. I didn't realise that the topping was meringue, so I had been looking for iced recipes.
I have my hazelnuts ready, I think I have enough eggs and icing sugar, guess what I'm doing later?!

This is star shaped biscuit.this is not exactly you are looking for.
If you are looking for star shaped then you can try it.
    Vanilla Shortbread Star Biscuit

    Ingredients

    • 150g Plain flour
    • 100g Butter
    • 50g Vanilla sugar
    • FOR THE VANILLA SUGAR
    • 1 Vanilla pod
    • 225g Caster sugar

    Method

    • 1. To make the vanilla sugar, whizz the vanilla pod and sugar in a blender. Pour through a sieve and blend again. Store in an airtight jar.

      2. Preheat the oven to gas 4, 180°C, fan 160°C. Place the flour and butter in a bowl and rub together to form crumbs. Add the vanilla sugar and mix to form a dough. Roll out the dough. Using a star-shaped cutter, cut out stars and place on a baking tray lined with nonstick baking paper.

      3. Bake for 8-10 minutes until just golden. Sprinkle with vanilla sugar. Leave to cool. Keep for up to 1 week in a tin.
