Mouldy towels - yuck!

I change my hand towels every other day or so. There's only me there and I'm out at work from 7am-7pm so they don't get a lot of use. Just a couple of times in the morning and evening.
I'm going to buy a few more hand towels so I can change them daily though.
(This is the other problem when you live alone - it's hard getting enough stuff of one colour group together to do a full load so you have to have a few of everything!!)0 -

Am I filthy or is this overkill? The poor bacteria don't stand a chance with you
I know what you mean about the colours though. I am very patient in collecting and building my piles, but sometimes my hubby gets irate and just charges in there, grabs an armful of anything and bungs it in the washing machine. Our white clothes are all slowly being converted to pale pink and blue  .

I only ever wash whites with other whites - I am fastidious about this after a few years as a student where everything got washed together (cheaper/easier) and all my underwear was a constant yucky grey colour.
Did a 60 degree towel wash last night and added some white T-shirts which said 40 only and they came out lovely and sparkly.
On another matter - I got bleach on the sleeves of a favourite black top at the weekend. I've tried bleaching the whole lot in a diluted bleach mixture but it's come out a sort of marled brown. Any tips to make it wearable again or should I chuck it away and sulk?0 -
Hi goonlord
I did the same thing once, got bleach on a nice pink top. So I bleached the whole thing (in diluted bleach). What had been a pink top became a white top, with pink stitching and a pink lace trim. Actually it looked really nice.
But...
... (you knew there'd be a but, didn't you?!!!!)
..... after a few washes, the original patch where the bleach had attacked it just went into holes! Oh, well, at least I got a few extra wears out of it!0 -
Thanks Chipps, I thought that might be the case. Guess I had better chuck it in the rag bag!
So many of my tops have got bleach splats. Wish I could be more careful...sigh.0 -

You need a pinny! :rotfl:0 -
I was always taught by my mother who is extremely houseproud that all towels need to be washed after one single use.
I have been doing this for donkeys years and go through at least 3 towels everyday. Not sure if I should stop doing this.
I even do it with tea-towels and dishcloths, each time they are used they get popped into the wash pile.So if I wash up and dry three times a day I have 3 tea-towels and 3 dishcloths to wash.
I`m starting to think this is a bit extreme now after reading other posts.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -

I always thought all towels, bedsheets and underwear should be washed at at least 60C to kill anything on them.0

i always thought you had to wash everything at 40 deg cos it costs too much to wash it any hotter
i've got a machine that only takes in cold water then heats it to the temp it needs to......DOES it cost a lot more in leccy to sometimes wash at a higher temp?
OH is always saying i should wash his jeans at 90 deg but i always fib and say i have even tho they're done at 40 !!!:rotfl:0
