Turkey Defrost Time

evenin all.

i would like to know how you guys defrost your turkey's and for how long

i have a 4.3kg turkey and i have had contrasting views on how long to deforst in a cool kitchen.

my parents say get it on wednesday and it will be ok to cook friday 12pm

my g parents say get out now and hope its defrosted in time for friday?

any ideas?

    thats saying 12 -17 hours....... find it a bit hard to believe as the same size turkey last year said 36 hours...... amnd it took longer

    says on packet 36-56 hours at 4c, but no room in fridge
    so will probably do the same as last year 26 hours at room tmep and see how it is

    That fits with the calculator - switch it to fridge temperature (4deg) and it reckons anywhere between 43 & 51 hours.

    12-17 hours is for a cool room. Do you know the average temperature of the room you'll be defrosting it in? If it's normally around 12 degrees, then average between the fridge & room temperature times, no?

    Mines out now, if it doesnt defrost in time i will put it in a bucket of cold water, if it does defrost, i will put it in garage, it normally takes longer than on the packet tho.!! and as soon as i can get the giblet bag out i keep neck in fridge and chuck liver etc out, i think it makes the gravy bitter.

    currently kitchen is 12c however just put central heating on as its 12c in the lounge too lol.............

    is it best to defrost in packaging or out of it
