    Yeah yeah I know. :D

Disagree. I think this indicates an undercurrent of discontent. Particularly as:

    - the bankers got off scott-free
    - lots of cuts for people that don't really understand/know why
    - students getting narky about tuition fees

...it just needs someone articulate to put it all together in a friendly perceitvable manner and I do believe the veil over people's eyes will be lifted.

I think you're right about there being an undercurrent of discontent about landlords, but I think Graham summed it up well when he was talking about it being about poor service from landlords: a lack of legislation and general rights for tenants. Probably like most people I've had poor landlords and good landlords, and when you get poor ones it's really difficult to get it sorted. A tightening up of the rules and legislation around letting would really help.

So I think when you hear people moan about renting a house, it's normally about poor service rather than some massive moral issue about their landlord making money. I personally think most people are quite at ease with the overall concept of people buying a house to rent out. I know I was okay with it when I've rented properties.
What a TRAGEDY if that were to undermine your immoral business model.

Just to be clear, I haven't rented out a place for a few years so I don't really have that much of an interest in the BTL model.
  • That you are the moaning, unhappy person, so unhappy that you moan and complain on internet forums.

How brave of you to insult me on an internet forum, well done! I guess that you are probably as quiet as a mouse when face to face with someone.
Erm... nah it's just quite cathartic. I come here to excercise the neurons.

Is it an insult to call you a parasite?

I completely agree it lacks imagination.

    I shall reflect on it.

Cripes Cleaver, I feel like I got to you. I thought everyone on here was as tough as old boots! :o
Long live the faces of t'wunty.

I've got that. And I've got no grudge with you. I'm sorry, it's just the principle of BTL that I find disagreeable.

Doesn't everyone to some extent? I've already posted on this thread that I questioned some of my morals when we rented a place. But everyone who rented it (we had three lots of tenants in all) all seemed to want to be there.

First people were moving abroad and had sold their house, as already discussed. Second lot were saving for a deposit and therefore wanted somewhere to rent when they did that. They moved out when they bought a place. Third guy was a chap who was asked to work in the area by his company and they rented our house for him and then he went home every weekend.

None of them wanted to buy a house in the area apart from one couple, who did end up buying one.
I'm not kidding when I say that the landlords who are pals of mine are the widest of wideboys and estate agents to boot!!

I hope you have a good Christmas. ;)

I've rented four properties. I've had one decent landlord, one that was amazing, one who was awful and one who I wouldn't p*ss on if he were on fire as he made our life a misery. Better legislation would sort out a lot of the problems we had with the two who weren't very good.

OK. Agree with most of this.

Look, for myself I am really just responding to those people who go on and on about prices going up being a good thing, who entertain perpetual rent increases as a good thing, oh and the MPs with their seemingly infinite suckage upon the allowances teat... you know, all the uber-offensive bulls (no real need to name names), so I do apologise if I've inadvertently lumped you in with that just because... well, just because really. *shrugs*.

I call a truce with you Cleaver.

So... you really are just posting here for "fun"? Sorry, still not getting this!

EDIT: OK just read your latest post which puts it all in context. I'm a bit flitty with this forum thing so can miss posts to people's backgrounds. We sound pretty similar to be fair. Sort of. Merry Christmas mate! :D

  • I know many young people who have been able to buy properties.
Some bought only a couple of years ago 2007 / 2008 when they were early 20's

I also know another just turned 30 this week that owns two properties and his girlfriend also owns her own one (three properties now in that relationship)

I would be interesting to know what percentage of them bought with next to no deposit ,on an interest only mortgage and with no repayment vehicle in place.

Then why don't you make that clear instead of broad, sweeping comments about the entire private lettings industry being completely immoral? It clearly isn't all immoral, as there are plenty of people who want to privately rent and do so from decent landlords. Everyone's happy.

I don't think anyone would disagree that landlords who revel in massively rising house prices and treat their tenants poorly are quite immoral.

By the way, I don't mind who you 'lump' me in with. It's only an internet forum.

Yeah, fun I guess. It used to be a bit more fun that it is at the moment as the debate used to be a bit more measured on both sides. So maybe I'm here out of habit more than anything else?

Don't think I've done any willy waving on this thread. And I'm certainly not going in to to a penis measuring contest with Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris' penis is so large that he has to tie it around his left leg so that it doesn't get in the way of his round-house kick.
