Sudden thought

I had my OR interview last wednesday it lasted about 45 mins by phone. I was then told moonbeaver would contact me to pay my £14 per month to them for 3 years. We had discussed my assets (my car is the only thing) very briefly earlier in the conversation - he just asked if i use it to get to work and I said yes and have no public transport etc to get there so have to drive. At the end of this conversation he never mentioned anything else except i'd pay my £14 suplus for 3 years. Is that it? do i get to keep my car? he said i'd get his report in january outlining what we'd discussed but thats all.

What is the approx. value of the car? Do you think you convinced the OR's examiner that you need the car for works purposes? I note you have no public transport so that is something they'll be looking for.

There was a problem with our car. We both went BR. The car was in my name, an asset of mine if you like. I was then a housewife and didn't need the car so by right my asset should have been realised. Thing is DH at that point needed the car as the depot's van he used had been withdraw due to the resession and cutbacks. So DH needed my asset for work. It was a problem for a little but we were in contact over a few days about it.

What I'm saying is maybe it's cut and dried that your car will be exempt so wasn't mentioned any further but what I must say is having dealt with my OR's office I know that the decision to allow 'me' to keep an asset that I did not need wasn't strictly within the guidelines. My OR examiner told me that you can never second guess what an OR's office is going to decide.

We shouldn't really second guess either.

I hope it works out for you and you get to keep your car. I know, the wondering gets to you. I'm sure I asked pretty much the same thing back then too. :)

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Hi yes its worth £1900 MAX - i reckon its really worth alot less as there is alot of broken stuff and 140,000 miles! and its 12 years old. And yes I need it to commute to and from work. I'm hoping thats the end of it and I can just keep it, i'll be gutted if they tried to say I didn't need it etc as I couldn't get to work on time! :(

It's looking good then ;) Our car was worth around £2200 and got to keep it. I hope if it wasn't mentioned there and then that you might lose it then hopefully you're ok. You need it for work and there's no public transport. Fingers crossed for you.

I think you really do have to stress the fact you need your car for work. I do remember the OR asked for all the details of my car, in the telephone interview, presumably so they could value it. I still don't know what its worth, ( not alot ), its value is intrinsic to me, but i did get to keep it, as without it, i would lose my job.

If you have any concerns about your car, i would give the IS a call. Its worth it, to put your mind at rest.

the fuel in the tank was worth more than my car!

Maybe worth telling the OR the fuel tank isn't full?

Delays may well be due to the OR's rep going round the office asking if ''anybody wants to buy a banger?''

    Merry Christmas everyone
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
  • I got a letter confirming the car was exempt, but it did take a little while
