Tesco's didn't want my "Double the difference"

Went to Tesco's today (I know, I know...) and bought some Cooked Mussel Meat very clearly marked on the shelf as £1 - in fact the pack even had a BIG red sticker on the front showing it as £1
When I got to the self service tills the pack scanned at 80p. Well, imagine my anger at being deceived.
So, when I had completed my shopping (and quite annoyingly never once had to call the assistant over to help as everything scanned through) I went to the Customer Services desk and offered them my 40p as compensation for double the difference.
They refused.... Are they allowed to do this ??

You should write to Terry Leahy immediately and send a cheque for 40p.
Don't forget to make it payable to their Swiss bank account, after all, you wouldn't want the UK taxman getting his hands on it, would you?"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
I wish that more people would "get" your post... Brilliant xx0

I did chuckle at that.
I wonder how many people will just skim read it, get the information backwards then start to have a go at the OP.0 -

Had a similar Tesco situation myself.
Armed with a voucher for £3 off a £20 spend I picked up a few bottles wine. Knowing that I would be in line for the multi buy wine discount, I picked up enough so that the final price would be just over £20. When I got to the (self scan) till, it gave me more discount than I was entitled to and my final bill was 4p short of £20 so the till would not let me use my voucher. I asked the till assistant if they could add 4p to my bill to make it £20 but they couldn't so I had to buy a bar of chocolate. Unfortunately this couldn't be added to the bill either so the assistant had to void the whole transaction and I started again...0 -
Send a cheque for the 40p to Leahy with an invoice to cover your postal costs?0

How very dare they! You should have stamped your feet and made a big scene until they were forced to relent. I'd be horrendously offended if I were you. They obviously don't think that your money is good enough for their high-faluting Tesco establishments. I think that we should organise an anti-boycott.
(Seriously, though, thank you so much. Your post has made my day! :-) )0 -
