Hi guys,

thanks to all the advice given to me so far its been really helpful - basically i have got to go bankrupt due to gambling.... how long should i expect to have a restriction on for the nature of my debts?

I have been told 6 years worse case - if thats the case then how do i look to negotiate a more leniant restriction?

Anyone who has had similar things would be great to hear from you and what you think

    Hi James

This is going to be all but impossible to answer, as there are so many individual circumstances involved, which are between you and the OR only.

I know that the average is about 6 years, and I have seen some for 3 years and one for 10 years.

BRO/U are not clear cut in what tariff is given, and a lot can come down to the indiviudal ORs office!!

You are within your right to challenge/negotiate any BRU offered but be aware that if the examiner doesn't like this they can opt to take it into court for a BRO (this will normally attract a longer length BRO)

As the others have said there is no definitive answer, just be totally honest with the OR and don`t try to hide anything from them. If you don`t mind me asking who gave you the 6 year figure?

BRO's should be consistent across the OR's offices, as they all go to a central authorisations team in London for review.

But it does depend on your individual circumstances, and obtaining help for your gambling problem should help too.

You can search other peoples BRO's here and look for similar circumstances and see what sort of terms they got, generaly the things that can help reduce the period now is by showing that you are getting help and bu accepting the BRU rather than forcing a BRO
