So, after a long time of saving I finally purchased a much wanted Shearling jacket. It was one of the light tan coloured ones. I had this thing a week!!!! Came home, took jacket off, put it over the table so I could get the fire lit etc and then went to hang it up....to find a big red stain on the shoulder!!!:eek::eek: I had a gel type red pen on the table (along with my study books) and hadnt put the lid back on and it had leaked into the fabric.
Needless to say the dry cleaners cannot get it out and it is ruined. Can anyone think of anything that may get it out please otherwise I fear an insurance job and we all know how wonderful they are to deal with!!
Gutted would be an understatement!

Did you pay for it on your credit card because if so you can claim?
So sorry to hear of this even tho` I dont know what a Shearling jacket is!0 -
Its a very soft sheepskin jacket and they dont come cheap! I have wanted one for years and saved up a load of old change. I have house insurance with accidental damage so claiming isnt a problem. I would prefer to get rid of the stain though if I can.0

i have a sheepskin coat - which i think is similar to shearling ?? and it was truely ruined by allsorts of marks - tried dry cleaning - and no real improvement - so nothing ventured ..I stuck it in the washing machine - it came out like new! - itwas a b*****r to dry though
and it weighed a ton wet - Im surprised the washing machine coped
but your laundret will have much bigger machines
having said this - most pen should come out with a solvent - a high grade one like lighter fluid squirted on and then dabbed (dont rub) off with a lint free cloth
you really need to know what type of ink it is - if its water based ( so will wash out) or oil based
why dont you scribble on a bit of scrap white material with the same pen ( anything even an old T towel) and have an experimentFight Back - Be Happy0 -
there was a gorgeous shearling jacket in an outlet store the other week. Truly lovely and the leather was so soft. It was reduced from £2300 to £677 so I can understand your dilema op
I don`t think I would try any solvent on it as solvent will dissolve the ink but will make it spread more. Personally I would go the insurance route as you have nothing to lose
If you still want to try then I would simulate the stain on chamoix leather, cut it into pieces and then try several different methods. Water, vodka, lighter fuel, biological liquid. wool cleaner on a white cloth sounds as though it might work
Good luck, I would be gutted too0 -
I know the pen but it doesnt say anywhere about whether its waterbased or not. But I have nothing to lose now so that sounds like a good idea so may give it a bash and hope that it doesnt shrink!0
