Getting into work

If you drive to get to work how do you gauge whether to go into work or not, do you base it on road condition ? look at it from a safety point of view and put your safety first ? or do you attempt to go in ?

its 14 miles, i drive but im just wary of the roads where i am as they havent been gritted as they arent on the list of roads to be gritted/salted
if it was walkable i would have walked it as that doesnt faze me at all0 -
Personally I would always attempt it. That way I can say I've tried.
Have you actually been out on the roads since it snowed? I know you say they haven't been gritted, it's the same where I am but they are still driveable. Just means going at a snails pace!Future Mrs Gerard Butler

I'm working 13-14 miles away tomorrow and am deliberating how to get in.

Why is it that car drivers are always the first to claim they can't get into work in bad weather? Bus drivers manage to do it, bus passengers manage to do it. Lazy !!!! spongers tbh.0

The buses can get about on the roads where I am as they are heavy and the weight is an advantage to them on the roads, for grip I would imagine. My car, a small Ford KA which is comparatively light, has no grip and can't even get out of my space on the road outside, never mind along the roads and up/down hills.
I could walk to the nearest bus route, down a very steep hill, but being 8 months pregnant I don't dare try it and risk falling (as people are doing on that road). I must be a lazy sponger hey! Lucky for me I can work from home so doesn't really apply to me if I can't get into work.0 -
I've not missed a day during this weather lol. I live on a farm which is very nearly snowed in, down a very narrow road which is currently like an ice rink. I do have a vitara 4x4, but OH has little coupe sports car and has made it in every day too. Just slow down and take precautions. Wear wellies/ boots if walking on icy ground.
Also been all the way down to Glastonbury, and to Manchester (I live near Birmingham, West Mids) and back since the weather set in.
If I were elderly or pregnant, I would seriously consider not going in at all. Too much to risk. Otherwise, don't see a problem.
Buses are running in West mids, but coaches are delayed and most trains cancelled. The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0 -
I think thats the problem with this weather motorist still think they have got to drive normally when going out, if all else fails i choose to walk to work. but if i had miles and miles to go then i don't think that i'd bother.0
