Hi all...i have a lovely painted vintage bread bin. I think its made of tin but not sure. Anyway, the inside had black rust type marks on it. I tried everything to remove the marks but ended up painting the inside of the bread bin with white gloss paint. It looks fine but i cant use it now, as it smells of paint! I wanted to know if anyone has any ideas of how to get rid of the smell. Its been washed but that did no good
Thanks, Mel x

My mum used to use half an onion to get rid of paint smells. Cut onions are supposed to absorb the smell of paint.0

I would have used enamel paint hun, if you are using the old bin I think you are describing. but you would have to leave it a few days before using anyway.0

Mely,
I would put it in a very low oven, to force the paint solvents out faster, (thats what makes it smell).
Only for an hour or so, if it was painted recently.

Thats a good idea..but im worried about it being damaged. As the outside of the breadbin is beautifully painted (not by me... lol), and im worried it may be damaged by the heat of the oven,as its so old. I will probably try the onion method, and if that doesnt work then i might put it in the greenhouse...when the weather is warmer! x0 -
If the paint is bone dry, sprinkle some bicarb inside it. and leave it for 24 hours..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
