Gammon in SC from Frozen... Help asap please :)

I have a gammon in the freezer and am running out of food (ill and waiting on MrT delivery on Wed) so I was wondering if I can put the gammon in the SC overnight from frozen?

What do you think?

Thanks all xx

  • I think I would defrost it first just to be on the safe side.

My slow cooker instructions state that you shouldn't put frozen meat in the slow cooker

  • You could defrost it quickly by putting it in a bowl of tepid water and then topping up with warm water as it cools. Depending on the size of the joint it should only take a couple of hours to defrost. (I have used hotter water to defrost meat just before cooking previously with no bad results but it's not usually recommended by experts, hence I didn't suggest it. )

The reason I'd not put it in the SC frozen is that it would probably take most of the night to defrost and the outside would get overcooked while the inside might still be frozen.

    It's only a game

I would have gone for the option you took too.

Be good to know how it turns out.

Are we talking about putting a joint in without any liquid? Will a joint of beef or pork roast?
