Self basting roasting tin

Aldi have got these in this week but I'm not sure if I desperatly need/want one
I may sound dim but does it rely self baste the turkey or am I missing something??

    It's got a tight fitting lid so the juices, instead of evaporating away, hit the top as steam and then fall back down as liquid onto the meat and so basting it. The dimples also help by allowing the juices to drip directly on to the meat instead of around it.

    The only problem I can see with that roaster is that it doesn't appear to have a rack so any fatty meat will end up sitting in its own fat. You might be able to improvise with a rack of your own though.

    I've had one of these for years and yes, Coopdivi is right, the meat sits in its juices, so ends up quite succulent, but also quite 'soggy' - particularly chicken with can end up with a white and wet skin. What I do is pour off all the juices to make the gravy, about 15 minutes before the end of the roasting time, then leave the lid off for the rest of the time, which will brown the skin.

    It's all a bit of a compromise, no lid and the meat dries out, with the lid it looks anaemic! Tastes just the same, either way.
