The money is no better, the hours per day are similar as well, although not split shift, as being expected to work weekends. The only way to make money is to set up yourself, not as an employee.

And while you may think you're ready for the weather, the wind is a whole lot stronger 20ft up a ladder than at ground level. Also working with metal tools in freezing conditions is real fun - I helped a mate put up a dipole antenna to day in -8C, 2 minutes and couldn't feel my fingers and gloves aren't really an option with wire cutters etc.

Setting up on your own can be good, 2 people i went to school with have set up on they're own and seem to be doing very well,
  • I believe most people are self employer ariel engineers on fairly restrictive contracts to sky which involve vans being logoed etc.
Not a bad earner but certainly not a great one and all risk is on you due to being self employed.

what ever you decide stay clear of qav-uk, quality audio and vision, my son worked for them and is still fighting for his money from when he started, needless to say he don't work there now.
they have no where near the concerns about health and saftey as they are suppose to impliment from sky.

If you implement H&S fully, the job of antenna installation is impossible.
