strange letter from rates people

So got a letter over the weekend from the rates folk was a letter saying power to require information it appears to be accusing me of some sort of fraud, believing that I had lived in my property prior to actually moving in after comparing data with other organisations.
I have been paying my rates for the past 3 years and they are chasing me for what appears to be a few weeks, you'd think they'd have nothing better to do than chase those amongst us who are paying their rates and not those who have been avoiding doing so for years

Interesting.
I would call them up and speak to them about it in a rational way and offer proof of when you moved into the house.
The letters they send out seem quite firm, but in person I've found the rates people to be quite reasonable.
We had a letter from them a few months ago demanding proof that the house we bought was unoccupied before we bought it.
How they expected us to provide it, I'm not really sure.
I referred them to the previous owners.
