Those lovely people at the Tax credits office decided to write me a letter saying i owe them £480.00 ! which is just what i needed!
so now i have to pay back £40.00 a month and they wont take any less than that as they say it needs to be payed in the 12 months! ....
so im gonna have to adjust my debt now! and im not very happy about that!
feeling a little deflated!

I agree it feels really cr*ppy when your doing really well and getting on top of everything and then out of nowhere a bill pops up and sets you back.
I know its not easy but you must try not to let it get you down, speaking from experience (this happens to me regularly) good things are normally coming your way within a few months.0 -
Oh piratess, that's a set back you could do witout I'm sure. Tax credits seem to be incorrect for so many people

Chin up sweetie, don't let this hiccup mess up all your good progress :grouphug:Leason learnt :beer:0 -
We had an overpayment of £380 last year, but they reduced our tax credit by £20 for 5 weeks and then left the rest to be paid off next tax year?? Must be because we are on a low income..Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
Que sera, sera.

Thanks for your words of support! feel a bit like HHmmmmppphhh ... this morning but ill get back down there again just going to take an extra year !!! LOL .. oh great! .. i did think maybe after xmas to just trawl as much money as possible into the bigger debts and see what happens ! ...
any ideas??Hoping to be a thinner me in 2010!0 -
You could try appealing against their decision. I'm sure someone on here posted that he'd stalled them for 18 months so far just by refusing to accept the decision without a breakdown of how they came to it.

hi piratess
Have you always kept the tax credit people up to date with any changes in personal circumstances. If so write to them and explain this. Let them know that you have always kept them up to date and that you feel that its unfair that they have overpaid you.
It's worth a try.

well they say i didnt give them any details of my p60 when i left to go onto maternity leave! and im sure i gave details over the phone but they have said they have no record of that conversation ...
Not sure where i would stand on asking for all details because ive now agreed to pay monthly ....
thanks for the advice upto nowHoping to be a thinner me in 2010!0 -
(((hugs))) to you piratess. I haven't bothered claiming Tax credits purely because I'm terrified they'll get it wrong and I'lll end up paying for their mistake. I wonder how many people who are genuinely in need of them are too scared to claim because of this?DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!

Do you have a phone bill that goes that far back? Is their number on it? After that, the conversation is pretty much what you say it is since you have records and they don't.piratess wrote:Not sure where i would stand on asking for all details because ive now agreed to pay monthly ....
If they take any form of action against you, then complain. After the fobbing off, go to your MP, papers etc."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
