What's up with my wireless network?

AAAARRRRGGGH..... this is driving me crazy now.....
The other day I was trying to get on the internet on my laptop (wireless) and it wouldn't work. So, I, in my wisdom, decided to disconnect the (apparently connected) wireless network, and then reconnect. Once I'd disconnected I couldn't refind my network and haven't been able to since.... even now, sitting here just 30cm from the router....
I've reset the router (then spent a ood couple of hours trying to set it up again), I've taken off the security (temporarily, it was WEP) and even when I search from cm's away, it still can't detect my bloody wireless network...
has anyone any idea what I could try next please (as my idea involving the window and my laptop probably won't be very productive..)
cheers

....but I thought broadcasting your ssid was a bad thing because other people could get on your network.?????
(although I'm chuffed to bits that my lappy works again!)0 -
It is better to turn it off.. for security, once it's working, if you look through the first link for "Assuming everything is working", it tells you how to tell windows to remember the ssid to connect to, then you can turn of broadcasting.
To make it secure, you need to use wpa with a long key.
Don't leave it unencrypted!Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
I've done my WEP, and (for now) left the ssid broadcasting........0

If you are using windows to manage the wireless, and not a program that came with an adapter.. this will tell windows to remeber your ssid, then you can disable it on the router.. then it's hidden from the neighbours.
right click on your wireless network icon, view available wireless networks, change advanced settings, wireless networks, highlight your ssid, properties, connection. Make sure "connect when this network is in range" is ticked. Click OK, advanced, make sure Access point (Infrastrucure) networks only is selected, and automatically connect to non-preferred networks is unticked.
WPA is more secure than wep..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
