around two weeks ago, but have just had an email from the company saying they haven't dispatched it yet and probably won't in time for Christmas.

I need this for a present pretty desperatly does anyone know where I could get something similar in time?

Are you close enough to be able to call in person (stoke on trent), otherwise if you phone, beg and grovel and offer to pay extra someone may take pity. Although with the weather at the moment it's not looking hopeful.
