in Cutting tax
Hi
I think I dont have a cat in hells chance with this but thought I would ask. My wife and I could possibly be out of the country for 6 to 8 months next year. Our house will be unoccupied in this time. According to my brief searches for info your house has to be unfurnished to qualify for a discount or exemption from council tax.
Is there any possibility of getting a reduction for a furnished house with no one in it for over 6 months? Are there any other benefits I can look at for saving money whilst out of the country for the majority of the year?
Thanks

Irrespective of furnishings it would remain your 'sole or main residence' and therefore council tax is chargeable at the normal rate for this period.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

There's no discount as you are still classed as being resident.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals.
