    Hi again,

Thanks for all your supportive good wishes.
I think its working for me because it was time to break the old habits, and for me, consolidation had been one of them. For me personally, it was a way of 'wiping' debt and pretending I was debt free, only to start again. I was near this point when I turned to CCCS and they advised against. All the interest has been stopped and all creditors have been fine whilst on the plan EXCEPT Lloyds TSB, despite years of banking with them. I even know of an employee of theirs who was issued a default despite being on a DMP. They did this to me too.
I am aiming to be debt free by the end of 2012, and my attitude to money and spending has completely changed, which of course was needed in order for me to free myself of the constant worry of destructive debt. Good luck to all those with a plan to be DF; this site is so inspiring for all of us determined to get there! :j

Creditors will issue defaults as by paying a reduced amount you are basically breaking the terms of the original agreement that you took out with them. All my creditors issued defaults when I started my dmp.

I don't have any dealings with Lloyds and from what I have read on here they seem particularly difficult to deal with. The best that you can hope for is that they sell the debt on quickly then all interest and charges should stop.

Good luck with it all, CCCS have been a godsend for me - 3 years next month

Hello. I have recently contacted CCCS after failing to obtain a consolidation loan for my current debt, however I did not find their plan to look very effective.
Hi jkelly81, I hope you don't mind me saying this but, based on my own bitter experiences, warning bells are ringing when I read your post. If you have been turned down for a consolidation loan then this suggests that your financial affairs are getting very close to meltdown - so saying that you would prefer a loan to going with CCCS may be true but may also no longer be an option for you. And yes, the CCCS repayments would be higher than on a loan - but you might get a nasty shock if you investigated how much extra time and money it will actually cost you to pay off that loan interest (if you can get one). Hopefully, you have already decided not to take out any further credit until your financial situation improves, but a consolidation loan is also a great temptation to bury one's head in the sand (I know, I did it) and carry on getting into further debt. If none of the above applies to you then apologies - but if someone else reads this and it makes them think twice about how they are facing up to their money problems then it will have been of use. :)

Good luck to everyone on a DMP and may 2011 get us all closer to that debt-free moment!

CCCS is never going to work for me now, I have just lost 2 months wage, borrowing enough to pay my existing debt and give me 2xmonthly wage would still mean less per month than current debt or CCCS. Another problem with CCCS is that my partner is not interested in her money paying my debt but they didn't accept this.

Are you doing a joint or single DMP? I am doing a single DMP and OH's money is not included in it at all (other than the assumption that he pays half the household bills, which he does anyway!)

AFAIK, your partners money should only be included if they are joint debts/a joint DMP

This was what they didn't understand, my partner doesn't pay any of the bills, her money doesn't spread very far and I have no idea what she spends it on, and she is not willing to discuss it with me because of my debt!
  • I guess that will be the issue then...

Have you tried Payplan? You may have more luck with them...?

She doesn't pay any bills at all for the house? Doesn't seem very fair that, especially as you may have run up debt to pay those same bills.

Hi again JKelly81 - having read some of your other posts, I do sympathise with how difficult you are finding things at the moment. Many of us have been in the situation you are in and although you may see no way out now, there is help for you if you reach out for it. A couple of practical points:

    1) If your partner lives in the house and uses the utilities, then she should be contributing to the bills. If she doesn't want to discuss her spending with you that's fine, but she still has to contribute. You need to be firm on this. No wonder you think the CCCS budget is unrealistic if you are paying for another person's keep!
    2) CCCS or Payplan (who I am with) work out a realistic budget which does give you enough to live on. It includes all living expenses (even haircuts!). At the moment, you are being hit left, right and centre by financial blows which you can't deal with because your finances are a mess (sorry to be blunt) - if a DMP is right for you, it will give you the support and breathing space to sort out your finances and be able to deal effectively with any financial 'emergencies' which may arise.

Trust me - you will feel a whole lot better if you take a step back, realise that you can't carry on as you are and begin to tackle your debt.

Keep posting - there is the benefit of thousands of accumulated years of debt wisdom available to you on this site!
