Hi im wondering if anyone has any idea to a pregnancy question please. Well i have a 31/32 day cycle and i was due roughly on the 21st november,i missed my period and took a test that day which was positive. I then started getting symptoms but bad pain and bleeding also so i thought when i went for a scan today at the early pregnancy clinic they would tell me i lost the baby.
They did the scan and seen a heartbeat but they told me i was 6 weeks and 3 days, by my dates which i know for sure i thought i was 8 weeks and so did my GP. Can this happen if theres a problem with the baby or before a miscarriage ?.

  • This happened with my son. You ovulate 12 - 16 days before your period is due.

You ovulated apx 7th November, therefore as at today I would say you would be 7 weeks pregnant.

HOWEVER, if like when I had my son you ovulated late... then you are less.

You are officially pregnant 2 weeks BEFORE ovulation. Dr's 'assume' your periods are 28 days, meaning your period is 2 weeks before ovulation. But longer cycles confuse this matter.

All you need to know right now is a scan before 13 weeks are VERY accurate in dating a baby, as they are all the same size up until then.

I am currently undergoing MANY tests for multiple miscarriage, and I can assure you that if you saw the babies heartbeat, you are VERY lucky. This is an excellent sign, and you are going to be fine.

You are 6 weeks and 3 days into your pregnancy, congratulations x

Ps. If a miscarriage were going to happy then heartbeat wouldn't have been there. And bleeding is normal during implantation (which is what you most likely experienced)

I had a miscarriage in 2000, then my son in 2002 and another miscarriage in 2003 and 2004, all with my ex.

Now I am married to a wonderful man, and we started trying after the wedding (June 2010) we've lost two since then :(

The tests are horrible and invasive, but I am positive that in Feb, they will find a fault (or not) fix it if they have to... and we can start trying again!

I've had 1 child, so number 2 will happen one day :D

But thank you for your kind words.

I wish you nothing but the best for your current pregnancy!
