Next delivery problem - advice needed

A couple of days ago I tried to place an order using the Next iPhone app and was annoyed to find it automatically ordered it to be sent to the home address and not store delivery like I wanted. I also have just moved house so needed to act quickly to ensure the item wasn't delivered to the old address which is still on my account.
I went onto the full Next website and the item had not yet been dispached so following the advice on the 'help' pages I was able to cancel the order and it seemed to be successful as it disappeared from my account and I heard no more about it.
Today I unfortunately received an email to say that the product had been delivered. I called customer services who were very apologetic and said that I must have cancelled it online after it had been dispatched - the item was still showing as pending when I cancelled it but it is apparently quite common for the website to be showing out of date information. The lady said she would try and get hold of the courier to go back and retrieve the item but I'm worried as there are new people living at the house now and I've got no idea if they would be honest or not. I live several hours away and so going to collect it myself wouldn't be an option. I'm worried now that I'm going to be liable for the cost of the item.
I know that it is ultimately my fault as I should have been more careful when ordering but I genuinely thought the order had been successfully cancelled online and had no reason to think otherwise, especially as the item wasn't showing as in stock and should have taken up to 5 weeks to arrive.
Does anyone have any advice for me, I'm really worried!:(
