I have been working in the same job for just over 5 years now. However I am currently looking to change jobs as I fancy a new challenge and am tired of my commute (110 miles per day!).
At the same time my partner and I are looking to move in together on a joint mortgage. We both have mortgages at the moment on our respective properties, mine is on the market and we are planning to keep hold of hers and rent it out in order to avoid losing money on what she paid for it (her house was bought in 2007 at a peak price).
My question is, if I do change employers, am I going to struggle getting a mortgage as I will only have been with any new employer a matter of months as opposed to years? Or do lenders look at an applicants employment history as a whole? i.e. I've held a steady job for the last 5+ years.
Any advice would be appreciated!

All lenders are different.
Some will want 3 months in current position, some 6 months. Some will be happy with 1 day in current position subject to criteria.
12 months continuous employment is usually required, with a maximum number of positions within that period.
If you change jobs and apply for a mortgage make sure you fit the lender criteria. In that situation it is vital to apply for the correct mortgage rather than the cheapest one.
A broker should be able to help you with it.
