So I want to be free of my 3 k debt, options:

A couple of problems with your plan -
1) work is not easy to find right now - there hardly seems to be many jobs around -it'll be a lot easier to try and get a job before you move I would have thought
2) are you family going to let you live rent free and provide food?
3) I don't think you will get JSA if you voluntarily make yoursefl unemployed - which I think giving up your job would make you - not sure how it works that you want to relocate but I doubt the jobcentre will pay out.
4) Might it be easier to try and pay the debts off that save up for moving as you will save more that way surely?
5) taking a payment holiday - the banks may well default you even if you come to some arranagement with them - seems a waste for 2/3 months to ruin your credit record to be honest.
Keep thinking.

The employment situation is deep in my mind. My family will put me up for a month or 2 yes, I'll contribute where I can, even if it's minimal to show my appreciation.
I'm looking for work, if I can find a job before hand then move into it, great, but the chances are probably slim.
I guess paying the debts off before moving would be easier, but the way I'm feeling at the moment, I really do need to move.
In terms of JSA, I'm unsure, I've never been on it, I've paid 4 and a half years contribution and if they wont pay out, it's a disgrace in my opinion. I feel I have valid reasons. Depression, unhappy most days with the basis of my life, and what keeps me going is the move I want. I do want to work.
I wish to avoid going on a payment holiday, hence me trying to put money aside.

I work 37.5 hours a week, I get paid hourly, the 10k salary annualy is befor tax, sois not a lot.
Thanks0 -
Ok so the plan is
1) maybe try and restructure your debts so you are not paying as much interest - try a credit union or 0% card if possible
2) try and look for a new job in your chosen area if possible
3) try and save up for moving expenses were possible
4) I didn't say I agreed with JSA not paying it's more the fact that you probably ought to plan for the fact they won't pay out and then if you do get it - great. How they would tell the difference between someone in a rubbish situation who needs to get out and relocate for a better chance in life and someone who meerly couldn't be bothered anymore and thought moving would be a good excuse to quit the job I wouldn't know.
Good Luck

P.S is 10k minimum wage - it sounds awfully low and being in London as well it sounds awful.Making my money go further with MSE :j

That works out to be £5.12 per hour.
Is the minimum wage not £5.98 per hour?
What age are you?0 -
Dancingfairy - That is my plan, to put enough money aside, to cover the minimum payments until I do find new work, and some money aside to keep me going for say 3 months.
I guess with the JSA, I'd have to exaggerate, depression etc, is the reason I left and wanted a new start, and see what happens, but I will prepare myself for the worse, so my debts are covered for sufficient time and incase the JSA do not pay out straight away. I've never claimed any kind of benefit, so this is the time I want to cash in, for a legit reason too.
Thanks a lot for the advice and help, much appreciated.
Impulsive - It is less than minimum wage, or maybe it's slightly higher than I thought, it is around 10k a year. I'm still classed as an apprentice, maybe that's why. I am 21 years old.
It is very poor money, considering my age, plus the cost of living in London is ridiculous in every aspect.
Thanks for your help.0 -

These are good reasons to move. However, I would seriously look at your employment prospects in the north. Scan the local papers (should be available online), see what the news is for the sector you want to work in. If you can't get a job in your preferred sector, what other opportunities are there? What does your family say about the employment situation up there? Have they got any contacts?crazy_gooner wrote: »I have a rough idea, to save up around £1200 within the next 3-4 months before I move, my debts are costing me around £110 a month, plus my phone £35, so say £150 a month.
If you haven't already, consider posting a full SoA, this will help you identify areas to save money.
I would seriously consider using the money to pay off debts. Personally, I have been in a situation where I stayed abroad after a contract ended, trying to get a job. I was unsuccessful and spent a lot of money on rent etc., which meant I am still in debt now. Not good.
I understand you will have support re lodgings but the dole can be a depressing place. You have to consider the possibility that it will not go to plan, and be ready to accept the consequences.
So, if the worst consequence is that you save the money, move up north, and then are forced return to London, broke and without a job, and you can accept this risk for the chance to make it up there, I say go for it.
Best of luck0
