This seasons' itunes free downloads are very biased towards people with, er, apple appliances. Which seems a little mean of them.

Today's is an ebook to be read on an iphone, ipad or ipod touch. Yesterday's was a game app for an iphone. But the giveaways are billed as being for anyone with an itunes account.

Well, most computer users have an itunes account - but despite the marketing and pr, I assume the numbers of people with an iphone, ipad or ipod touch are still (and always will be) a minority. Apple hardware hasn't taken over the world yet!

Understandable loyal customer bias by apple, but not very inspiring to those of us who don't want, or need, or can't afford, their over-fancy phones, mp3 players etc.

But they do have an offering for us too - instead of the Life of Pi ebook today, we non-ipad/od/hone users are being offered a song by Clare Maguire...

Which is probably quite good*, but not in the league of a free book

*have looked into this now and this track is NOT a special '12 days'-themed offering for today, it's just their (free) single of the week, so is actually extra-mean of them, as looks like it will be the 'alternative' freebie all week, not just today.

On the one hand, as the "12 days of Xmas" is marketed as an "App", it does fit in with iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad being required.

On the other hand, my 1st Gen iPod touch cannot run OS4, which is needed for todays book. Apple have apparently discontinued support for a device sold up to Sept 08. Just over 2 years old, and Apple have almost forced obsolesence. They may find the competition a little harder now that Android has gained a strong foothold. :cool:

Awww, thanks for posting that!! The rest of the freebies have been pretty dire, to the extent I'd forgotten to check todays! Just downloading it now!

As I'd dropped some hints about wanting his CD for Xmas & not got it, this is better than what I had before!!
