Cleanser,Toner and Moisturiser - which ones are best?

Hi Everyone,

I have no set routine when it comes to skincare and I want to start getting into a routine. At the moment it consists of using Oil of Olay moisturiser when I have washed my face.

What would you recommend thats not too pricey but is a good product. I have combination skin.

Many thanks

Jules

I would try to avoid products with Mineral Oil and other nasties in it and it also depends on your age and what your looking for from your products and how much you want to pay.

Good Things is a very nice low-mid price range from Boots aimed at younger skin, they often have 3 for 2 offers.

Aimee is another good range for younger skin, dd uses this and loves it, also lowish price range, dd gets hers from Superdrug.

Kiehls is high price range, lovely products but not very effective for anti aging, I buy mine online direct fro the Kiehls site cos I live in the middle of nowhere but you can buy these in department stores too.

I'm just about to try Weleda anti aging products (pomegranate) I've read good things but we will see.

Also well thought of is JASON products, usually from health shops but they didn't suit me but they are excellent value.

Nuxe are highly recommended but the price tag is huge so I am yet to try them, all ranges of this brand seem to receive excellent reviews.

Before I went on my no mineral oil quest one of the best products I used was Boots own brand oil free range, they have several different ranges and are super cheap and nearly always on offer when I wanted a bit of luxury it was Clarins all the way for me - hth:)
Thank you for this site Martin
The time for change has come
    Good luck for the future

Being an x Estee Lauder consultant I love there stuff but sadly can no longer afford it I use L'Oreal it goes a long way I would not buy anything that says FOR ALL SKIN TYPES........ you can go for a free consultation at a Estee Lauder counter and they will ask you some questions and then tell you what skin type you are ....Yes they will try and sell you something but just ask for a sample and say you will try it and come bac at a later date......
I hav always look after my skin from being very young and I hav never washed it I am now in my 50's and can say my skin is in great condition....cant say that about the rest of me ...lol
  • Thank you for replying. I have just turned 44 and have some birthday dosh so will use some of this to buy the skin care.

I will look at all the products mentioned ...lol at my age it will be the anti ageing ones!!

Shu Umera for me. It's expensive, but a few times a year, they have 20% off days when I stock up. The cleansing oils are the best thing ever and a huge bottle (at £50 though!) lasts me for about 9 months. As it's oil based, it doesn't dry your skin and I find that I need less moisturising products - at least that's how I justify the expense!
Their 'toner' is called 'lotion' just to be confusing. I went ways for 2 weeks a few years ago and forgot to take it. My skin was a disaster by the end - very lumpy and coarse. A week back on it and normal service was resumed.

There is another thread on hear about oil based cleansing using olive/jojoba oils, so it might be worth a look at that.....
  • I use Elemis for my skincare regime, at the moment I use the Melting Cleansing Gel, followed by the Soothing Apricot Toner, followed by Pro-Collagen Marine Cream. At night I sometimes exchange the Marine Cream for the Maximum Moisture Night Cream, but only a couple of nights per week as my skin is prone to breakouts if I overload it.

It's all pricey stuff but lasts for ages, I view it as an investment! x

I second dermalogica, the stuff is fab and worth the expense. Get a facial at a salon that does their skin matching service to make sure you get the right stuff. They also do little starter kits for different skin types.
